The Henderson State softball team was able to complete one game on Sunday afternoon at Dee White Field, falling 5-2 to East Central in Great American Conference play.
Due to inclement weather, the game was suspended in the bottom of the sixth inning of the second game with HSU clinging to a 2-0 lead and up to bat with no outs on the board.
The remainder of the second game will be played on Monday beginning at Noon at Dee White Field.
In the first contest, Henderson State drove out six hits but could only manage to score two runs, as
Courtney Warren led the Reddies with two hits.
HSU was held scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning, when
Morgan South doubled to center field which allowed
Shayla Wright and
Alexia Lopez to score from second and third base, respectively.
The game remained a 1-0 score in favor of ECU throughout four innings, until the Tigers exploded for four runs in the top of the fifth inning off of hits from Jordan VanPelt and Lauren Reeves.
Madison Calvert suffered the loss for HSU in the circle, falling to 4-7 on the season while surrendering seven hits and striking out two batters.
East Central's Marissa Shaffer picked up the win, improving to 5-4 on the season.
HSU was able to bounce back in the second game before the suspension, as the Reddies put up one run in the bottom of the third inning when South scored from third on a Warren sacrifice fly to left field.
In the low-scoring affair, HSU put up their second run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning on a
Caroline Cullins single to right field which allowed Warren to plate.
Michelle Sorensen provided a stellar performance from the circle through six innings, surrendering just one hit from the Tigers.
