Priddy Pitches Reddies To Win Over Hendrix 5-3

Kris Priddy pitched seven hitless innings to lead Henderson State to a 5-3 win over Hendrix Tuesday night a Clyde Berry Field.

The freshman from Terrell, Texas held the Warriors in check in striking out three batters and at one time retiring 10 straight batters.

It was Priddy's longest outing of the year as he faced just five batters above the minimum to pick up his first collegiate win.

Henderson took a 3-0 lead in the third-inning as Hunter Mayall reached base when he was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame. Jordan Taylor would then receive a free pass to give Henderson a pair of base runners with no outs.

AJ Kruzel stepped to the plate and delivered the first hit of the game with a triple to put Henderson on top 2-0. It was Kruzel's second triple of the season.

Kruzel would later score on a Tadarious Hawkins single.

The Reddies, 12-16 on the season, added two more runs in the fourth-inning. Again it was Mayall getting things started with a base hit, followed by walks issued to Taylor and Kruzel.

Henderson would score its two runs when Hendrix's Jorge Leon attempted to throw out Mayall at home on Kearon Redmon's grounder. However, Leon hit Mayall on the attempt and two runs would score.

The final two innings weren't pretty for the Reddie pitching staff as Hendrix would put together three hits, while benefitting on two walks and a hit batter off of two Henderson relievers. Blake Patterson would get the Reddies out of the inning by striking out JR McAuley and getting Jake Wiegand to line out to Mayall at first base.

HSU reliever Nick Vanthillo entered the ninth and would struggle as Hendrix loaded the bases with no outs on a Reddie error, a walk and a single.

However, Taylor made a sensational defensive play to rob Spencer Summers of an extra-base hit, by diving and catching a line drive and doubling off Leon at second base.

Vanthillo would get Tanner Cooper to ground out and secure the win for Henderson ending the Reddies' four-game losing skid.

Kruzel would lead Henderson offensively going 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI while reaching on walks twice.

Henderson will begin a three-game GAC series on Friday when the Reddies welcome Southern Arkansas to Clyde Berry Field with the first pitch set for 6 p.m.
