The Henderson State softball team dropped a pair of Great American Conference matchups on Saturday at Southern Arkansas, falling 6-5 in game one and 6-1 in game two.
HSU(18-18, 9-15 GAC) took SAU(26-3, 18-3 GAC) to extra innings in the first contest, and held a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning after a
Shayla Wright single plated
Olivia Trapp.
However, Southern Arkansas tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on an Ashton Atwell single which scored Shelly Glass.
The Reddies were unable to come up with a run in the top of the tenth, and Southern Arkansas would take the victory in the bottom of the inning when Taylor Guin singled to right-center field to score Chelsea Jordan for the game-winning run.
HSU did not get on the board until the top of the 5
th inning when
Morgan South singled up the middle to score
Alexia Lopez from third base, making the score 2-1 SAU.
A two-run homer from
Hope Patterson gave HSU a 3-2 lead after Lopez's score, and another solo blast from
Ashlyn White extended the HSU lead to 4-2 before a two-run sixth inning from SAU.
Both South and Wright led HSU in the first game of the day with two hits, while
Ashlyn White suffered the loss from the circle falling to 1-2 on the season.
SAU's Kaylee Garner picked up the win for SAU to improve to 11-3 on the year.
The Reddies cranked out eight hits in the contests, but gave up 11 hits to the Lady Muleriders while forcing two SAU errors and committing just one.
In the second game, HSU managed to score just one run in the top of the first inning, while leaving nine batters stranded and belting out nine team hits.
HSU's lone run came on a Lopez single to center field which allowed
Courtney Warren to score from third to give HSU the 1-0 lead early on.
The Reddies held on to the lead for nearly four innings before SAU exploded for three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and tacked on one run in the fifth followed by two more in the sixth to claim the 6-1 victory.
Warren led HSU in game two with three hits in four at-bats including two doubles, while White and Lopez each cranked out two hits.
Madison Calvert picked up the loss, falling to 6-8 on the season.
The Reddies finished the four-game series picking up one win off the Lady Muleriders, while falling in three games.
HSU will look to bounce back on Tuesday, as the Reddies are scheduled to host a double-header against Ouachita Baptist at Dee White Field, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
