Henderson State cruised to a pair of Great American Conference wins in double header softball action at Oklahoma Baptist on Friday, winning 5-3 and 8-0 over the Lady Bison.
In game one, the Reddies used eight hits and a two-run seventh inning to take the 5-3 victory.
HSU(31-23, 22-20 GAC) got off to a hot start, scoring the game's first two runs in the top of the first inning, as the first occurred when
Ashlyn White smacked a single to left-center field to plate
Courtney Warren.
White would then score two batters later on a
Morgan South double to left-center.
Oklahoma Baptist put up one run in the bottom half of the inning when Madison Vaughan singled to right field to score Shalee Cordell.
HSU would then answer by tacking on a run in the top of the second inning when
Ashleigh Erb scored on an error by the OKBU catcher.
The Lady Bison countered with another run in the bottom of the second, making the score 3-2 in favor of the Reddies.
Three scoreless innings then proceeded before HSU would add to its lead, tacking on two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning when
Hope Patterson blasted a home run over the left field wall to score
Keirsten Seahorn.
HSU would enter the latter half of the inning with a 5-2 lead, and
Michelle Sorensen would close the door on the Bison, pitching a complete game for the Reddies and moving to 18-10 on the season.
In the second game, neither team scored in the opening inning before HSU stormed out to a 5-0 lead after two innings of play.
Erb started things off for HSU with with an RBI ground-out to shortstop, plating Seahorn from third base.
Shayla Wright would then single to right field, scoring Patterson to give the Reddies a 2-0 lead.
A Warren single two batters later allowed Wright to advance home from third, and
Caroline Cullins would finish off the scoring in the inning with a two RBI single through the left side to score Warren and Wright.
HSU kept its momentum in the top of the fourth inning, as a Warren double to center field scored Erb from third.
Cullins would next reach on fielder's choice, which also scored Wright from third on the out.
The Reddies' final run would come with the bases loaded as Patterson would walk, allowing Warren to advance home to give HSU the 8-0 lead.
Madison Calvert would go the full five innings for HSU, facing 19 batters and giving up just four hits.
HSU would finish the contest with 10 team hits, including two each by Cullins, Warren, and Erb.
The Reddies return to action tomorrow for another double header against the Lady Bison in Shawnee, Okla., with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
