A career performance from
Michelle Sorensen helped lift Henderson State past nationally ranked and #1 seeded Arkansas Tech(8) by a score of 3-0 in Great American Conference Tournament action on Saturday night in Bentonville, Ark.
Henderson State would put up the first run of the game when the Reddies loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning.
Morgan South was awarded the RBI after being walked by ATU's Sydnee Clark, as
Courtney Warren crossed the plate for the game's first score.
Another bases-loaded walk scored the Reddies' next run in the bottom of the second, as
Hope Patterson received an RBI when
Caroline Cullins advanced home to give HSU a 2-0 lead heading into the third inning.
A
Keirsten Seahorn single through the left side in the bottom of the fourth inning plated Warren from third, giving the Reddies their sixth hit of the game and a 3-0 lead over the Golden Suns.
Seahorn then came up huge for the Reddies on the defensive side, throwing out Arkansas Tech's Ashley Anderson at the plate on a heave from right field as Anderson attempted to advance home on a Reddie throwing error.
Sorensen would then come through to close out the inning with a strikeout as the game advanced into the bottom of the sixth inning, with ATU still being held scoreless.
A throwing error to first base from ATU's pitcher Morgan Vaughan after  Cullins bunted down the first base line allowed South to scamper home from third base, giving HSU a 4-0 lead with one out on the board in the sixth inning.
The Reddies then plated another run when
Shayla Wright smacked a single to center field to score
Ashleigh Erb from third, and then advanced to second on the throw giving the Reddies a 5-0 lead.
Olivia Trapp kept the bats hot for the Reddies, blasting a single up the middle to score Wright from second and increase the Reddie lead to six runs.
HSU ended the inning with three runs on two hits and forced three ATU errors.
Arkansas Tech put together a last-inning effort securing its first two hitters on base, but Sorensen would finish the complete game by recording three straight of her ten total strikeouts to preserve the win for the Reddies.
With the win, Sorensen improved her record to 22-11 on the year and recorded her 43
rd career victory, which sets a new Henderson State record for career wins.
The previous record was held by Melissa Decker from 2009-12.
HSU advances to take on Southern Arkansas in the final night game at the Tiger Athletic Complex on Saturday for a chance to make it to the championship game on Sunday.
