The Henderson State volleyball team, after two promising showings at the Tampa Classic and Bettye Wallace Invitational tournaments, looks to get its conference slate started off strong on Tuesday when Harding visits the Duke Wells Center at 6 p.m. in both schools' Great American Conference opener.
Coaches:
Henderson State-
Kristee Porter (9-29, second season)
Harding- Meredith Fear (90-39, fifth season)
Â
Series:
Harding leads the all-time series with Henderson 49-22 and has won the last 13 matches between the two schools. The Reddies last win over the Bisons came in October of 2009.
Henderson State Notes:
The Reddies, 5-4 on the season, are coming off of a 2-2 performance this past weekend at the Bettye Wallace Invitational, which saw the Reddies defeat MIAA opponents Missouri Southern State and Pittsburg State, while also pushing No. 11 Northern State to the brink in a five-set thriller.
Â
Henderson is led by a group of new faces, highlighted by sophomore opposite hitter
Sharon Tukuaoga and freshman outside hitter
Courtney Bolf, both of whom were named to the Bettye Wallace All-Tournament team this weekend.
Â
Bolf and Tukuaoga rank second and third in the GAC in kills per set with 3.69 and 3.53 respectively, and Tukuaoga's .280 hitting percentage is good for tenth in the conference.Â
Â
The Reddies also lean on freshman setter
Sariah Boney, who ranks fifth in the GAC with 9.91 assist per set, and junior libero
Sydney Skelton, who has 163 digs to her credit in 2016 and ranks fourth in the conference with 4.66 digs per set.
Harding Notes:
The Bisons bring a 6-2 record into Tuesday's match having won their last six games after starting 0-2 in their 2016 campaign.
The Bisons are led by sophomore middle blocker and reigning GAC Defensive Player of the Week Zoe Hardin, a 2015 All-GAC First-Team selection, whose 1.28 blocks per game currently leads the GAC.
Â
Harding also boasts three of the top seven hitters, percentage-wise, in the GAC in Hardin, senior middle blocker Sara Smith and sophomore right side hitter Emma Reeves. The Bisons finished 15-16 in 2015 and 9-7 in the GAC.
