Reddies Volleyball Loses To Northwest Missouri

Despite 11 kills from freshman Courtney Bolf and 10 kills from sophomore Sharon Tukuaoga, the Henderson State volleyball team fell 3-0 on Saturday at the Peggie Martin Crossover Challenge to undefeated Northwest Missouri State, 15-25, 27-29, 20-25.

Set one was a tight contest, tied at 15-15, until the Bearcats ripped off a 10-0 run to quickly take a once-close game.

The second game saw Northwest Missouri jump out to a 6-2 lead, but the Reddies went on a quick 5-0 run to retake it at 7-6. After exchanging several points, the Bearcats again pulled ahead by four points, 19-15.

Henderson rallied once more, going on a 5-1 run to knot the game at 20-20. Northwest won four of the next five points to push the Reddies to the brink at 24-21, but for the third time in the game, Henderson rallied with four straight points to give itself a 26-25 lead. However, the Bearcats withstood two-straight game points and the Reddies didn't have another rally in them as they ultimately fell 29-27.

Game three was neck-and-neck at 13-13 until Northwest Missouri scored five straight points to move it to 18-13. The Reddies took three of the next four points to try and rally one last time, but the Bearcats went on a quick 4-0 run to go up 23-16 and held off Henderson to win 25-20 and take the match 3-0.

Both freshmen setters had strong games for the Reddies, with Haley Higgins notching 16 assists and Sariah Boney totaling 13. Junior libero Sydney Skelton also had 16 digs for Henderson in the loss.

The Reddies next game is Tuesday at home against Great American Conference foe Arkansas-Monticello at 6 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.
