Volleyball looks for second GAC win at Southern Arkansas

After notching its first Great American Conference win of the year on Tuesday, the Henderson State volleyball team looks to continue its winning ways tonight on the road against Southern Arkansas at 7 p.m.

Coaches:

Henderson State- Kristee Porter (10-33, second season)
Southern Arkansas- Britney Davis (3-10, first season)

Series:

Henderson leads the all-time series between the two schools 35-13 but has lost the last 11 meetings. The Reddies' last win against the Lady Muleriders came in October of 2010.

Henderson State (6-8) Notes:

The win on Tuesday night against Arkansas-Monticello marked the Reddies' first 3-0 GAC victory since 2012 and helped Henderson improve to 1-1 in conference play this season.

Sophomore opposite hitter Sharon Tukuaoga and freshman outside hitter Courtney Bolf continue to spearhead the Reddies' attack and have combined for 367 kills in 14 games, the second-highest total between two teammates in all of NCAA Division II. Tukuaoga's 184 kills and Bolf's 183 put them at No.1 and No. 2 in the GAC in total kills.

Many of those kills have come by way of freshman setter Sariah Boney, whose 8.92 assists per set is good for fifth in the GAC. Also beginning to emerge for the Reddies is fellow freshman setter Haley Higgins, who has 99 assists on the year, with 83 of them coming in the last four matches alone.

Libero Sydney Skelton, and one of the few returnees from the 2015 squad, continues to have a strong junior campaign, and has tallied 245 digs so far this season, good for 14th nationally in NCAA DII and second in the GAC.

Southern Arkansas (3-10) Notes:

The Lady Muleriders enter tonight's contest having lost their last six contests and eight of their last nine overall. They are 0-2 in GAC play with 3-0 losses to Arkansas Tech and Ouachita Baptist.

SAU is led by senior libero Paige Mays, who has 219 digs on the year, good for third in the GAC; as well as freshman setter Katy Cooper, who has notched 292 assists thus far in 2016.

Offensively the Lady Muleriders have three different players with more than 100 kills on the year: Junior outside hitter Alexia Southern (116), junior opposite hitter Alli O'Banion (110) and senior outside hitter Serena LeDuff (106).
