The Henderson State volleyball team, in conjunction with Ouachita Baptist, will host the Bettye Wallace Invitational Friday and Saturday in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Â
Matches will be played at the Duke Wells Center and the Dunn Recreation Center on campus at Henderson and Vining Arena on campus at Ouachita Baptist.
Â
The 10-team round-robin event includes Great American Conference rivals Southern Arkansas and Arkansas Tech, as well as Drury University, Pittsburg State, Missouri Southern State, West Alabama, Lindenwood, and Northern State, along with the host schools.
Â
Henderson will look to continue their promising start to the 2016 season after a 2-2 showing at the loaded Tampa Classic last weekend, where they defeated No. 7 Tampa and 2015 NCAA Tournament participant Franklin Pierce.
Â
The Reddies have a .201 team attack percentage with
Sharon Tukuaoga leading the way with 62 kills. This week's Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Tukuaoga averages 3.44 attack winners per game and has compiled a .294 attack percentage.
Â
Courtney Bolf follows with 57 spikes, while
Kamra Jackson has 44.
Â
Sariah Boney ranks fifth in the GAC in set assists per game averaging 9.15, having a total 174 sets in five matches.
Â
Sydney Skelton ranks third in the league in defensive digs. Skelton has totaled 84 digs this season.
Â
The Reddies will play Friday at 11:30 a.m. against Missouri Southern State and 7 p.m. versus Northern State. Henderson returns to action Saturday at 11:30 a.m. to face Drury and 4:30 p.m. against Pittsburg State. All of Henderson's games will be played in the Duke Wells Center.
Â
Reddies Opponents:
Â
Northern State University, from Aberdeen, South Dakota, is ranked 11th in the nation in the latest AVCA polls. The Wolves were 25-4 in 2015 and tallied wins over five ranked teams, including two wins over the top-ranked team in the country over the course of the year before bowing out in the first round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament. They are 3-1 in 2016 and beat No. 5 Western Washington last Friday to open their season.
Â
Drury University is 2-2 in 2016 coming off of a 21-11 campaign last fall. The Panthers were eliminated in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in 2015, but return five starters including senior setter Brooke Antenen, an All-GLVC selection with 3041 career assists.
Â
Both Missouri Southern State University and Pittsburg State University hail from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association and are looking to rebound from 2-27 records in 2015 that saw them carry losing streaks of 14 and 16 games, respectively. Missouri Southern State has already eclipsed their two-win total from last season and are 2-2 thus far in 2016, while Pittsburg State is 0-4 to start their 2016 slate.
