Henderson State to Face Unbeaten Arkansas-Monticello

First-place Arkansas-Monticello will invade the Duke Wells Center on Saturday as Henderson State will play host to the unbeaten Boll Weevils in a match-up between the top two teams in the Great American Conference with tipoff set for 3 p.m.
 
The game will be the first time in GAC history where two teams on active win streaks of at least seven games will face each other.
           
Henderson has an 11-2 record overall and a 6-1 mark in league play. The Reddies won their seventh straight game on Thursday in beating Southern Arkansas 78-72. Despite being outrebounded 46 to 33, Henderson held off the Muleriders by making 21-of-28 free throws and forcing 19 turnovers. 
 
Kaylon Tappin scored a game-high 27 points including hitting 12-of-14 from the foul line against SAU. The junior from Little Rock has made 32-of-35 free throws in the last three games while averaging 23.3 points in those contests. Tappin averages 18.2 points for the season.      

Kevin Kozan scored all 11 points in the first half against SAU and moved up to third in GAC history in career 3-point field goals made with 221 trifectas. The senior from New Lenox, Ill. averages 11.1 points and leads the team with 29 3-point field goals while shooting 43 percent from beyond the arc.     

Chris Hawkins scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds on Thursday and is second on the team in scoring averaging 13.1 points per contest.
           
Arkansas-Monticello is 11-0 on the season and 7-0 in GAC play following Thursday's 84-78 win over Harding.           

The Boll Weevils lead the GAC in scoring defense, allowing only 68.0 points per game. The team leads the league in steals per game averaging 8.7 per contest while forcing 18.2 turnovers per game. A physical team, UAM is tops in the GAC in rebounding margin at +6.2 boards per contest.           

Derylton Hill leads UAM in scoring and rebounding averaging 20.5 points per game, which ranks second in the GAC. The junior from Palm Bay, Fla. is sixth in the GAC in rebounding at 7.5 boards per contest.  

Karim Mawuenyega averages 13.3 points and leads the GAC in steals averaging 2.6 thefts per game. The junior from New Orleans is UAM's top 3-point shooter hitting 24 trifectas this year.  

The Reddies will also need be concerned with Cobe Goosby who is scoring 13.3 points per contest.         
           
Henderson State leads the all-time series with a 94-61 advantage in a series which began in 1931.           

The teams split the two game series last year. The Reddies four of the last five games against UAM. 
Admission for all-GAC double-headers is $5 for adults and $4 for students. Henderson State students are admitted free with their student ID.
 
Saturday's double-header will be carried on 106.9 FM KYXK Arkadelphia/Gurdon with Robbie Aaron providing the play-by-play. Former Reddie player and coach Grady Bean will provide the color commentary.
 
The Domino's pregame show will air 12:45 p.m. with the women's game set for 1 p.m.
