Reddies Drop Third Straight, Lose to ATU

Henderson State could not overcome some hot shooting by Arkansas Tech as the Wonder Boys beat the Reddies 83-69, Thursday at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville, Ark.

Arkansas Tech, 10-4 overall and 6-4 in the Great American Conference, shot 55 percent for the game making 31-of-56 shots from the field. The top 3-point shooting team in the league made 10 trifectas, shooting 42 percent from beyond the arc.

Both teams got off to slow starts as the Reddies made just 1-of-7 from the floor while Wonder Boys sunk just 2-of-7 to begin the game.

The Reddies, 11-5 and 6-4, would start to heat up making eight of their next 13 field goals with Ben Marello, Chris Hawkins and Kaylon Tappin all having a pair of field goals during the next eight minutes.

However, Arkansas Tech also hit its stride with the help of a pair of 3-point field goals by Grant Prusator as the Wonder Boys held a 25-20 lead with 7:57 left in the opening half.

Henderson would fall behind by double-digits as the Reddies went nearly six minutes without a field goal as ATU built a 44-31 advantage at the break.

ATU took control of the second-half pushing its lead to as many as 25 points a one point during the game as the Wonder Boys would make 14-of-26 field goals in the half .

Henderson continued to play hard cutting the deficit to 13 late in the game but that was as close as the Reddies would get.

Tappin, Kevin Kozan and Brad Nairn led Henderson with 12 points each with Morello finishing with 11 points

Prusator led Tech with 24 points including making 6-of-8 3-point field goals.

Henderson finished the game shooting 42 percent from the floor converting on 24-of-57 shot attempts.

The Reddies return home Saturday to play host to Harding with the opening tip set for 3 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.

The game will Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day with the HSU women wearing gold shoe laces and the men sporting gold socks in support of the "GO 4 THE GOAL" Foundation. Donations will be accepted throughout the day.
