Henderson State won its fifth straight game as the Reddies rolled to an 87-61 win over Southwestern Oklahoma in Great American Conference men's basketball action, Thursday at the Duke Wells Center.
The Reddies, 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the GAC, set the tone early building a 13-5 lead by the first media time out at the 15:16 mark as Henderson knocked down 6-of-10 shots.
Henderson continued playing some tenacious defense over the next eight minutes as Southwestern Oklahoma would make just 2-of-13 field goals. The Reddies held the Bulldogs scoreless for over five minutes while going on a 14-2 run to increase their lead to 27-12 with 7:44 left in the half.
The half would end with the Reddies having a 42-22 lead as Henderson got balanced scoring from
Kevin Kozan with 8 points, and
Eric Dailey and
Ben Marello with 7 each.
The Reddies continued to play aggressive in the second half as the Bulldogs struggled from the field the entire half converting on just 32 percent from the field.
Henderson attacked the basket the entire game scoring 48 points in the paint compared to just 16 for Southwestern Oklahoma.
Chris Hawkins was dominant inside recording his third double-double of the year with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Matt Panaggio and Marello also helped inside with Panaggio scoring 8 points and pulling down 7 boards, with Marello finishing with 12 points and four boards.
Kozan finished with 11 points which included a pair of 3-point field goals, with
Kaylon Tappin also reaching double-figures with 11 points as well.
Henderson finished the game hitting on 49 percent from the floor knocking down 34-of-69 attempts, while SWOSU was limited to 30 percent shooting on 20-of-66 attempts.
Henderson State will next play host to Northwestern Oklahoma on Saturday with tipoff set for 3 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center
