ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Sariah Boney had a double-double with 21 assists and 16 digs, and
Adrianna Hartmann had 11 kills, but Henderson State could not get going on Saturday afternoon and fell to East Central 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 10-25, 17-25).
SET ONE: With the score tied at 10-10 in the first set, East Central put together a 6-1 run to take a 16-11 lead. The Reddies gradually crawled back into it and cut the deficit down to 23-22 to give themselves a chance, but the Tigers finished it out by taking two of the last three to win the opening set, 25-23.
Zuzana Ondruskova had four kills in the period for Henderson.
SET TWO: Henderson got out to an 8-3 lead early in the set, but the Tigers responded over the next several minutes to trim the Reddies' advantage down to just 17-16. From there, HSU buckled down, and won eight of the next 11 points to pull away and win the set 25-19, tying the match at 1-1. Hartmann and
Kamra Jackson each had three kills in the set for the Reddies.
SET THREE: East Central came out in the third set like a team possessed, and overwhelmed the Reddies right from the start by opening up a commanding 20-6 advantage. There was little Henderson could do from there on, as the hole was just too deep to climb out of. The Tigers eased to a 25-10 momentum-changing win and took a 2-1 lead in the match. ECU had an attacking percentage .278 in the set, its highest percentage of any set in the match.
SET FOUR: The two teams traded the first ten points of the fourth frame, but with the score knotted at 5-5, ECU was able to gain some separation by taking seven of the next 10 points, grabbing a 12-8 lead. Henderson cut the deficit down to 14-12, but that was as close as it would come, as the Tigers were able to keep the Reddies at bay for the remainder of the set and cruised to a 25-17 win to take the match, 3-1.
GAME NOTES: Sydney Skelton had 27 digs for the Reddies, while Ondruskova added 10 digs and seven kills.
Abby Blackburn had 18 assists to go along with Boney's 21. As a team, Henderson had an attacking percentage of just .060 in the match, while the Tigers hit .194. ECU had 55 kills to the Reddies' 40. The loss drops HSU to 10-12 on the year and 3-6 in Great American Conference play.
