Reddies Come Up Big in the Fourth Quarter, Defeat Rogers State 55-52

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State trailed 42-33 entering the fourth quarter on Saturday afternoon against Rogers State, but the Reddies put together a magnificent finish, out-scoring the Hillcats 22-10 in the final period, to rally and secure a 55-52 win in their final game of the calendar year.

The Reddies led 25-23 at the halftime break, but Rogers State took control by winning the third quarter 19-8 to put Henderson in a hole. Not phased by the deficit, the Reddies came roaring back with a 13-0 run to begin the fourth, highlighted by 3-pointers from Lani Snowden, Torrie Thompson and Hailey Estes, to snatch back a 46-42 lead with 4:05 to play.

A Hillcat 3-pointer cut the lead down to 46-45 seconds later, but after more than two scoreless minutes from both teams, Estes found Thompson on a back-cut with seconds left on the shot clock to push the Henderson advantage back out to 48-45. An RSU missed 3-pointer and foul led to two clutch free throws from Snowden with 40 seconds to play, but the Hillcats made it interesting in the waning moments - twice cutting the lead to just two-points. Luckily for Henderson it had Haleigh Henson, who hit three big free throws in the game's final 20 seconds to help the Reddies hold off Rogers State and escape with the 55-52 victory.

Thompson led Henderson with 15 points and was 6-for-8 from the line, while Henson added 13 and seven assists. Estes and Bree Bossier each had nine points and Estes tacked on four steals. The Reddies shot 19 free throws compared to just four for the Hillcats, out-rebounded RSU 55-52 and forced Rogers State into 21 turnovers while committing just 14 of their own. Henderson held the Hillcats to just 10 points on 28.6 percent shooting in the decisive fourth period. The win moves HSU to 6-4 on the season and closes out the Reddies' non-conference schedule.

Henderson's next game is on Jan. 4 at 5:30 p.m. against East Central in Ada, Oklahoma. The next home game for the Reddies comes on Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m. against Arkansas Tech.
