Henderson State put together a strong offensive performance to dominate Dallas Christian in beating the Crusaders 115-67, Wednesday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Six Reddies scored in double-figures led by
Kaylon Tappin's 30 points. The senior from Little Rock added eight rebounds and collected four assists while hitting 13-of-14 free throws.
The Crusaders, 5-5 on the season, jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead before Henderson went on a 7-0 run to take a 7-6 lead with just over 15 minutes remaining in the half.
Henderson, 4-4, began pulling away late in the half as the Reddies went on a 19-5 run in the final six minutes to take a 50-35 Â advantage into the locker room at the break.
Henderson used a balanced scoring attack in the half with Tappin having 10 points, while
Chris Parker came off the bench to score 9 and
Brad Nairn and
DJ Franklin assisted with 8 points each.
Dallas Christian used a different method of scoring with nine of its 10 field goals being 3-pointers. The Crusaders were 9-of-19 from the perimeter and just 1-of-9 inside the arc.
Henderson controlled the inside game during the half as the Reddies pulled down 26 rebounds compared to 12 for DCC.
It was all Reddies in the second half as Henderson outscored the Crusaders 65 to 32 while converting on 63 percent from the field making 19-of-30 field goals.
Parker finished the night with 16 points along with 6 assists, while Franklin totaled 15 points and 7 rebounds.
Nairn totaled 14 points and 6 boards, with
Tanner Hamilton scoring 12 points and
Raekwon Rogers adding 11 points and 6 rebounds.
Henderson outrebounded Dallas Christian 52 to 24 with the Reddies totaling 21 second chance points while scoring 25 points off of 17 Crusader turnovers.
DCC shot just 34 percent from the field (22-of-64), including 13-of-32 three-point field goals.
The Reddies will next travel to Jonesboro, Ark. on Saturday for an exhibition game against Arkansas State with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
