Arkansas Tech's hot shooting sinks the Reddies on Senior Day, 98-81

ARKADELPHIA, AR - Kevin Kozan scored 23 points and Chris Hawkins added 16 and eight rebounds, but Arkansas Tech hit 10-of-11 3-pointers in the second half and pulled away to defeat Henderson State 98-81 on Senior Day in the Duke Wells Center.

The first half was tight early, as neither team could break away from the other, but the Wonder Boys gradually began to get some separation behind a 21-10 run that spanned nearly eight minutes and helped them take a 32-19 lead at the 7:26 mark of the period. Henderson did its best to close, and used a 3-pointer from Kozan and a jumper from Matt Panaggio in the final two minutes to cut the lead to 40-30 at the halftime break.

The Reddies cut the deficit to single digits on three different occasions in the second half, including bringing it to as close at 53-47 with 15:09 left in the game, but ATU's 3-point shooting kept Henderson at bay throughout. With the Reddies down 61-53 and 11:51 to go, the Wonder Boys built themselves more of a cushion behind a 9-0 spurt which stretched their lead out to 70-53 with just under 10 minutes remaining. Henderson trimmed it to a 14-point advantage several times, but could not overcome ATU's hot shooting, as the Wonder Boys pulled away in the final minutes to win it 98-81.

Kozan had his second 20-point game in three days by scoring 23 and also hit five 3-pointers, while Hawkins chipped in 16 and eight boards, and Panaggio added nine points, six rebounds and four assists. Henderson shot just under 45 percent from the field and forced 15 Wonder Boy turnovers, but ATU hit its first 10 3-pointers of the second period and shot 56.9 percent from the field on the afternoon. The loss drops the Reddies to 14-12 and 9-11 in Great American Conference play this season.

Henderson's next game is Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Oklahoma.
