HSU Softball Take Series From Oklahoma Baptist with Double-Header Sweep

Henderson State swept a double-header from Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday winning 5-3 and 8-0 at Dee White Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.

With the win, the Reddies win the Great American Conference series from the Bison and improve to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in league play.

In the first game, Henderson quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first-inning as Selena Mendoza drove in two runs with a single that plated Keirston Seahorn who singled and Alexis Morton who reached on a fielder's choice.

The Reddies went on top 3-0 getting a run in the second as Alyssa Dixon was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Shayla Wright reached on a single. Both players advanced on a stolen base with Dixon scoring on an errant throw by the Bison catcher.

Oklahoma Baptist got single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before Alexis Morton blasted a two-run homer to provide some insurance.

Henderson clubbed 10 hits in the game with Warren, Seahorn, Mendoza, and Olivia Trapp having two hits each.

In her first start in the circle, Sydney Bonner pitched five innings and scattered three hits while striking out a pair of batters to pick up the win.

Michelle Sorensen was credited with a save pitching the final inning.

In the finale, Henderson put together a six run second-inning highlighted by two-run doubles by both Seahorn and Ashleigh Erb.

In the Reddies third, Destiny Garza led things off with a walk followed by singles by Mendoza and Trapp to score a run. Dixon tripled in a run to put Henderson on
top 8-0 after three innings.

Sorensen went the distance in the circle giving up just one hit while striking out seven to improve to 6-4 on the year.

Again Henderson collected 10 hits in the game with Mendoza, Trapp and Dixon having two hits each.

Courtney Warren was 3-for-6 in the twin bill with three doubles, while Mendoza was 4-for-6 with a pair of runs batted in and Trapp going 4-for-4.
