Reddies Rally To Take Down First Place Arkansas Tech

Henderson State rallied from a 5-1 deficit, scoring three runs in the eighth and ninth innings to beat Arkansas Tech 7-6 in the first-game of a three game Great American Conference baseball series in Russellville, Ark.

In game two, it took 11 innings before Tech scored a run to win the nightcap 1-0 to even the series.

Trailing 5-1 in the eighth-inning in the opener, the Reddies loaded the bases as Parker Jones and Joe Shepherd both walked followed by a single to leftfield by Luke McGuire.

Jones scored on a fielder's choice by Colton Coffman for Henderson's first run. After Alan Hall was hit by a pitch, Hayden Lessenberry delivered a two-run single to leftfield to draw the Reddies within a run.

In the ninth, Jones and Shepherd both belted one-out singles with Dylan McCain delivering a three-run homer to leftfield to put the Reddies on top 7-5.

Zach Eschberger pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief to get the win, with Blake Patterson pitching the final inning to pick up his sixth save of the year.

The Reddies, 14-6 overall and 8-3 in the GAC, collected 13 hits in the game with Lessenberry going 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI to lead Henderson. Jones, Shepherd, McCain and Jordan Taylor had two hits each.

Game two was a pitcher's duel as Bryant Haralson and Trent Armstrong held both offenses at bay.

Haralson retired the first 18 Tech batters he faced while Armstrong allowed just two hit through seven innings.

In the bottom of the seventh, Marcus Wilson would end Haralson's bid for a perfect game reaching on a single to right field. ATU would load the bases with one out, but Haralson got out of the inning with back-to-back punch outs to force extra innings.

Haralson exited the game after 9 complete innings, striking out nine batters while allowing just one hit.

Tech would score the game's only run as Cody Wescott hit a one out double and scored when Jackson Hollinshead singled to left for the game winner in the 11th inning.

Jon Youngblood was tabbed for the loss.

The Reddies totaled four hits in the game with Joe Myers having a double.

The two teams will play the finale of the series Monday at 1 p.m.
