Delta State rallied from a nine run deficit to beat Henderson State 15-13, Tuesday in Cleveland, Miss.
The two teams combined for 31 hits with the Reddies having 16 safeties including four doubles and three home runs.
The Reddies, 16-9 on the season, built an 11-2 lead midway through the game, but the 19
th-ranked Statesmen scored four runs in each of the final three innings to improve to 19-7 on the season.
Hayden Lessenberry got things started for Henderson hitting his first home run of the season, a solo blast to left-center field to give the Reddies an early 1-0 advantage.
Delta State tied the score in the bottom of the first, but the Reddies exploded for six runs in the top half of the third-inning.
Parker Jones belted his second double of the game to get thing going for Henderson, with
Jordan Taylor lacing a single to right field to plate Jones.
Colton Coffman found a gap in right-center field for a double to move Taylor to third base with one out.
Joseph Shepherd then roped a single down the right field line to score Taylor and increase the Henderson lead to 3-1.
The third run of the frame scored as a
Brentten Schwaab ground ball to short was booted to allow Coffman to come home.
Kearon Redmon would join the hit parade with the fifth hit of the inning belting a single to right field to score Shepherd. After a sacrifice fly by
Alan Hall that scored Schwaab,
Joe Myers clubbed the Reddies' third double of the inning to score Redmon to put Henderson on top 7-1.
After DSU scored a run in the third, the Reddies added four more runs in the fourth-inning with the help of three walks, a hit batsman and a two-run single by Redmon.
The Statesman added a run in the fourth to make the score 11-3 before Lessenberry hit his second home run of the game to push the Reddies lead back to nine.
Delta State's offense came alive in the fifth with the Statesmen scoring 12 runs on 11 hits over the next three innings including getting three home runs.
Jones led the Henderson offense going 4-for-5 having two doubles in the game, while Lessenberry was 3-for-6 with two home runs and a pair of runs batted in.
Redmon finished the game going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI, with Myers having two hits including a double and home run.
The Reddies used five pitchers in the game with
Austin Cross getting the start and going 4 1/3 innings giving up 7 runs on 6 hits.
Jon Youngblood was tabbed with the loss and fell to 0-2 on the year.
The Reddies will play host to East Central in a three-game Great American Conference series this weekend at Clyde Berry Field. The two teams are scheduled to play Friday at 6 p.m. and a double-header at Noon on Saturday.
