GAME ONE:
Henderson State's
Keirsten Seahorn broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning with a two-run homerun and the Reddies tacked on two more in the seventh to defeat East Central 4-0 in the first game on Saturday afternoon in Ada, Oklahoma.
Neither team could get anything going through the first five innings, but in the sixth
Alexis Morton reached on a fielder's choice and Seahorn took advantage, sending a deep shot over the centerfield wall to give Henderson a 2-0 advantage.
The Reddies were not done scoring, though, as they got back to it in the seventh, when a sac fly from
Courtney Warren with the bases loaded scored
Alyssa Dixon and an error on the catcher scored
Brooklynn Jimeson, pushing the lead out to 4-0 and sealing the win for Henderson.
Michelle Sorensen came through again in the circle for the Reddies, getting her fifth-straight win by going 7.0 innings, striking out 12 and allowing no runs on just two hits. Dixon led the way at the plate for Henderson, going 2-for-3 and scoring a run, while Seahorn drove in two runs with her homerun in the sixth.
GAME TWO:
Henderson State carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but East Central rallied with two runs to steal the second game of the doubleheader 3-2 from the Reddies.
HSU got going in the third, when
Alyssa Dixon scored on a bunt single from
Olivia Trapp, and then
Keirsten Seahorn singled in
Lakin Wolever to make it 2-0 Reddies.Â
East Central got one back in the fourth on a solo homerun from Claresha Clemons, but Henderson held them off for the next two innings and took a 2-1 advantage into the bottom of the seventh, needing just three outs to seal the win.
Ultimately, errors would cost the Reddies, as two miscues late led to two unearned runs for the Tigers, as they pulled it out at home 3-2 to gain a split for the day.
Despite the loss,
Sydney Bonner pitched well for Henderson, going 5.2 innings and allowing just one run on two hits. Wolever, Seahorn and Trapp each had hits for the Reddies at the plate.
Saturday's results leave HSU 15-15 overall and 9-8 in Great American Conference play. The two teams will play a second doubleheader tomorrow in Ada, Oklahoma, with the first pitch for game one set for 10 a.m.
