Luke Tebbetts provided another stellar pitching performance while
Dylan McCain provided the big offensive play as Henderson State beat Arkansas-Monticello 2-1, Friday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia.
Tebbetts pitched seven complete innings in throwing just 83 pitches to improve his record to 6-1 on the season.
The right-hander from Winnsboro, Texas gave up his lone run in the first-inning as he hit Nick Piraino who led off the game and later scored on a single by Brian Ray.
Tebbetts went on to allow a total of three hits, while striking out three batters before turning the game over to Reddie closer
Blake Patterson.
The sophomore from Benton, Ark. struck out three batters and walked one in picking up his seventh save of the year.
Meanwhile, Henderson's offense was quiet until the fourth-inning. With one out,
Joe Myers reached on a walk and advanced to second on a single by
Parker Jones. The two moved up 90 feet when
Jordan Taylor grounded out to second base.
The Reddies, 19-10 overall and 13-6 in the Great American Conference, has had difficulties getting the timely hit the last few conference series'. However, McCain took Grant Black's first offering back up the middle to score both runners which was all Henderson needed.
Both teams managed just three hits in a classic pitcher's duel.
Black pitched well for UAM going the distance and striking out five Reddies but was tabbed with the loss falling to 5-3 on the year. The Weevils fell to 17-12 on the season and 13-6 in league play. Â
The two teams will complete the three-game series with a double-header beginning at 1 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
