Reddies Earn Split With Ouachita Baptist

Bryant Haralson picked up his seventh complete game victory to lead Henderson State to a split of a Great American Conference double-header, Friday at Rab Rodgers Field.

Haralson struck out nine batters while giving up four hits in recording a 6-1 win to salvage the split.

The Tigers clubbed out 16 hits to take the opener 11-8.

Henderson, 28-18 overall and 20-12 in the GAC, took the lead in game two scoring a pair of runs in the top of the third-inning, as the Reddies put together some two-out magic to take a 4-0 lead.

Alan Hall reached on a one-out single and stole second to jump start the inning. After a walk was delivered to Hayden Lessenberry, the two both moved up 90 feet on stolen bases.

After OBU pitcher Adam Bahoul recorded the second out with a strike out, Colton Coffman roped a single to right field to score the first run of the inning.

Parker Jones then took Bahoul's first offering to left-center field for a two-run double to add to the Reddies lead. Joe Myers then traded places with Parker blasting a double to deep left field to plate the final run of the inning.

The Reddies added a run in the fifth-inning with a solo home run by Jordan Taylor, with Lessenberry forcing home a run in the sixth-inning with a double to score Hall.

OBU's lone run came in the sixth when Justin Weigle hit a solo home run to prevent the shutout. Haralson struck out the side in the final inning to improve to 8-3 on the year.

In the opener, OBU put together a five-run seventh to beat the Reddies 11-8.

The game began with Henderson scoring a pair of runs in the first-inning as Hall led off the game with a walk and advanced to third on a Lessenberry double down the left field line.

Hall scored and Lessenberry went to third as Taylor laced a single back up the middle. Lessenberry scored when Coffman grounded into a double-play making the score 2-0.

OBU answered with a run in the bottom of the first with a leadoff home run by Ty Owens The Tigers tied the score in the second frame as Preston Speers doubled and later scored on a JD Speed sacrifice bunt.

The Reddies regained the lead in the top of the fifth as Nolan Ryan led off with a single and later scored on a fielder's choice by Hall to make the score 3-2. Hall stole his GAC leading 27th stolen base of the year and would later come home on a John Franklin Matros wild pitch.

OBU tied the score in the sixth and had a huge chance to put up a big number in the inning.

Kyle Alexander began things with a solo home run to lead off the inning before Speers singled and Austin White tripled to tie the score at 4-4.

After Speed walked to put runners on the corners with no outs, HSU went to the bull pen with Austin Cross entering the game. The freshman from Ashdown, Ark. retired the next three batters including picking up a strike out to hold the Tigers at bay and strand three base runners.

Henderson again went on top in the seventh as Lessenberry was hit by a pitch and scored on a two-out single by Jones to make the score 5-4.

The Tigers, however, exploded for five runs on six hits in the seventh-inning with Aaron Studdard having a big two-run double and a RBI triple by Jakahari Howell  to help give OBU a 9-5 lead.

After OBU added two more runs in the eighth, the Reddies tried to rally in the ninth as Taylor hit a solo home run to lead off the frame with Myers supplying a two-run blast of his own to cut the deficit to three runs. However, that was all the runs Henderson could manage in the inning.

Ryan, Taylor and Jones had three hits each in the twin bill, with Taylor and Jones driving in three runs each.

The two teams will play the finale of the series on Saturday at Rab Rodgers Field with the first pitch set for Noon.
