ADA, Okla. - Zuzana Ondruskova had 12 kills and eight digs, while
Courtney Bolf added an 11 kill, 10 dig double-double to help Henderson State sweep Cameron 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-22) at the Tiger Invitational in Ada, Oklahoma.
SET ONE: Cameron got out to an early 9-5 lead, but Henderson quickly cut the deficit down to 11-10 with a 5-2 spurt. After keeping it close throughout the opening frame and trailing 19-17, Henderson finally made its big run, tearing off five straight points to seize its first lead of the game at 22-19. The Aggies regrouped after a timeout to take the next two points, but the Reddies slammed the door by taking the final four to win it 25-21 and go up 1-0. Bolf had four kills for Henderson in the opening set, including the game-winner.
SET TWO: The Reddies started out hot behind three quick kills from Ondruskova and took a 10-6 lead. The Aggies took the next point, but after a kill from
Adrianna Hartmann, Cameron committed four-straight errors to help Henderson's cause, helping the Reddies stretch their lead further, out to 15-7. The Aggies attempted to rally and got within 18-13, but they would come no further, as HSU finished the set on a 7-2 run to win it handily, 25-15, and take a commanding 2-0 lead. Ondruskova had four kills in the set for HSU.
SET THREE: The third set was a back-and-forth battle which featured four ties within the first 30 points. With things knotted up at 13-13, the Reddies went on the first big run of the set for either squad, as they put together a 6-1 spurt which gave them the lead 19-14 and put the Aggies' backs against the wall. Cameron would not go away, and answered with a 4-1 run of its own to draw within 20-18. Henderson would not be denied, though, as the Reddies pulled away again to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-0. Bolf and Ondruskova both finished with five kills in the final set.
Game Notes: Karlie Greene had another solid performance, coming through with eight kills and eight blocks, while the Reddies' setter combination of
Sariah Boney and
Danika Daum came through with 37 assists; 20 for Boney and 17 for Daum. Boney also added 10 digs for the double-double. Libero
Sydney Skelton had a team-high 18 digs and
Violet Williams chipped in seven kills and four blocks. As a team, the Reddies were stout defensively and held the Aggies to a hitting percentage of .034 in the match. Henderson finished the round robin-style Tiger Invitational 3-0 with today's two victories, taking its record up to 5-2 on the year.
Up Next: The Reddies will travel to Searcy, Arkansas on Sept. 12 to face Harding at 6 p.m.
