Hot Shooting Southern Arkansas Upends Henderson State 90-76

Henderson State could not overcome the hot shooting of Southern Arkansas as the Muleriders beat the Reddies 90-76, Saturday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The Muleriders, 9-7 overall and 5-5 in the Great American Conference, hit 15 three-point field goals and shot 52 percent from the field while outrebounding the Reddies 43 to 32.

Southern Arkansas jumped out to a 14-2 lead as the Reddies began the game making just 1-of-9 field goals during the first five minutes of the game.

The Muleriders led by as many as 19 points, building a 40-21 advantage with 4:58 remaining with the help of 9-of-18 shooting from the 3-point arc.

Henderson, 8-8 and 3-6, cut into the deficit with back-to-back 3-point field goals by DJ Franklin and another long-range jumper by Tanner Hamilton to make the score 42-32 at the 2:38 mark.

SAU got a late 3-pointer by Gabe Gilliam to give the Muleriders a 48-35 lead at the break.

Henderson quickly cut into the SAU to begin the second-half, as Franklin hit a pair of field goals and Chris Parker knocked down two free throws to make the score 48-42 early in the half.

The Reddies would get no closer as the Muleriders continued it sizzling shooting pushing the lead to as many as 22 points.

Franklin led the Reddies with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Josh Jones totaled 17 points and 6 rebounds.

Kaylon Tappin and Chris Parker added 11 points each for the Reddies.

Henderson finished the game shooting 36.5 percent from the field making 23-of-63 attempts.
 
Henderson will make the journey across Highway 67/7 on Tuesday as the Reddies take on Ouachita Baptist at Vining Arena with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
