Henderson State will begin the second rotation of Great American Conference play as the Reddies play host to Southwestern Oklahoma on Thursday with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.
Thursday night will be "Greek Night" at the Duke Wells Center, as the Henderson State fraternities/sororities will be recognized during the game. Representatives from each Greek organization will participate in halftime games during the women's game, and a special stroll-off performance during halftime of the men's game.
Henderson is coming off a thrilling 81-79 win over Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday to improve to 9-8 overall and 4-7 in the GAC play.
The Reddies will be attempting to win its sixth straight game against the Bulldogs with Henderson winning earlier this year 76-73 in Weatherford, Okla.
Kaylon Tappin became the 25th player in HSU history to score 1000 points in the win over Ouachita Baptist. Tappin scored 25 points including going 13-of-14 from the foul line against the Tigers.
The senior from Little Rock averages a GAC leading 19.5 points per game. In the first game this year against SWOSU, Tappin scored a career-high 33 points including sinking a school-record 18 free throws on 21 attempts.
Josh Jones had a big night against OBU scoring 18 points to improve his average to 14.7 points for the season. The Memphis, Tenn. product scored 12 in the first game against the Bulldogs.
Chris Parker averages 12.9 points for the year after scoring 12 points on Tuesday against OBU. The freshman from Plano, Texas scored 17 points back in November against SWOSU.
DJ Franklin recorded a double-double against the Tigers having 14 points and 12 boards. The sophomore from Monticello is averaging 13.5 points and 7.7 rebounds in the last six games.
SWOSU enters Thursday's contest with a 3-14 record overall and a 1-10 in the GAC with the Bulldogs having lost their last seven games.
The Bulldogs average 74.9 points per contest and are shooting 41 percent from the field which ranks last in the league.
Charles Beauregard leads the team in scoring averaging 18.1 points per game including a 31-point performance last Saturday against Oklahoma Baptist. In the first meeting earlier this year against the Reddies, Beauregard scored a team-best 19 points while having 7 rebounds.
Devin Pugh is scoring 12.9 points per game while shooting 38 percent from 3-point range. Pugh scored 11 points, knocking down 3-of-5 long range jumpers in the first game against Henderson.
Nick Shoemaker is scoring 9.4 points and is the Bulldogs' top 3-point shooter having connected on 43-of-102 treys. Shoemaker scored 9 points, sinking 3-of-5 trifectas in game one against HSU.
Henderson leads the all-time series against Southwestern Oklahoma having an 8-6 advantage in a series that began in 2012. The Reddies have won the last five meetings.
Thursday's double-header will be carried on 106.9 FM KYXK Arkadelphia/Gurdon with Cyrus Wittig handling the play-by-play.
The Domino's pregame show will air 5:15 p.m. with the women's game set for 5:30 p.m.
