Reddies Power Past Arkansas Tech 3-0, Sweep Golden Suns For First Time Since 2004

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Courtney Bolf turned in a double-double with 19 kills and 12 digs, and three other Reddies collected double-digit digs as Henderson picked up their second sweep of the season over Arkansas Tech, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22). The win marks the first time the Reddies have beaten the Golden Suns multiple times in a season since 2004 and also gives Henderson its 22nd win of the season — the program's most since the 2007 campaign.

Henderson's junior middle blockers Karlie Greene and Adrianna Hartmann had seven kills each. Abby Blackburn led the Reddies with 25 assists and Taylor Scalzi missed a double-double by a single assist, as she delivered 10 defensive digs.

The Reddies (22-4, 10-2) will return to the court on Tuesday, Oct. 23 when they go across the street to take on Ouachita Baptist at 6 p.m.

SET ONE
The start of the match was close, as both teams used mini-runs to pull ahead of the other. With HSU up 14-13, the Golden Suns took seven of the next nine points to seize a 20-16 advantage. Needing a spark, Reddies' head coach Phil McDaniel took his first timeout of the match and the Reddies responded. After two points and a much-needed ace from Scalzi cut the ATU advantage to one, 20-19, Scalzi used her head, literally, to set up a kill from Courtney Bolf which tied the game. Scalzi picked up another ace and had the final kill of the set as HSU finished the frame on a 9-0 run, taking the set, and the match lead, 25-20.

SET TWO
Having given up a lead in the first set, Arkansas Tech looked to answer quickly in the second frame. ATU was able to get out to a 10-7 advantage, but it didn't last long, as a 5-1 run from Henderson gave the Reddies the lead back, 12-11. The Golden Suns would tie it at 13-13, but another spurt from HSU put the Reddies up 17-13. Henderson eventually stretched the lead to 22-16 and a center-court kill from Hartmann allowed the Reddies to take the set 25-21 and a commanding 2-0 advantage in the match.

SET THREE
The Reddies had all the momentum going into the final frame and won the first four points of the set. However, in the blink of an eye, the Golden Suns erased the deficit and the match was tied, 7-7. With the score tied 11-11, Henderson went on a 5-0 run behind two kills from Bolf, establishing a seemingly safe advantage, 16-11. ATU refused to go quietly, however, and used a lengthy 10-4 run to take a 21-20 lead that forced the Reddies into a timeout. For the second time in the match, HSU had a great response to the stoppage in play, this time going on a 4-0 run to push the Golden Suns to the brink, 24-21. Tech got one back, but Reddies' captain Zuzana Ondruskova finished a minute-long rally with a powerful kill, giving the Reddies the set, and the match, 25-22.
