ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Fresh off of its first sweep of rival Ouachita Baptist since 2010, Henderson State will travel to Searcy, Arkansas, on Thursday night for a pivotal rematch with first place Harding at 6 p.m.
The Reddies are riding high after an emotional five-set victory against Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday. Henderson trailed OBU 2-1 for the second time this season, but once again fought back to win the final two sets and take the match on the road. With the sweep of the Battle of the Ravine, Henderson State (23-4, 11-2) has accumulated the most wins for the program in a single season since 2001.
Thursday night's contest has major implications in the GAC standings. Henderson is currently in a tie for second place with Southwestern Oklahoma and trails Harding (19-7, 12-1) by one match. A win over the Lady Bisons on Thursday would surge the Reddies into a tie for first place with just two regular season matches remaining.
Henderson controls its own destiny in its quest for the GAC regular season title. If the Reddies win their final three matches, they will earn at least a share of the regular season crown.
Scouting Harding
After a slow start to the 2018 season which saw the Lady Bisons carry a 5-6 record through their first 11 matches, Harding regrouped and has been nearly unstoppable since entering GAC play. Harding's lone setback in league action came in early October, when the Lady Bisons fell to Southwestern Oklahoma in Weatherford, Oklahoma, 3-1. Since the loss, Harding has won seven-straight matches and dropped just two total sets in the process.
The match will be the second of the season between the Reddies and Bisons. Henderson came out of the gates strong in the first meeting in Arkadelphia and won the first set in dominant fashion, 25-13, but the Lady Bisons stormed back to win the match 3-1. Harding is paced by Zoe Hardin, an All-American middle blocker who leads the team in both kills and blocks. Hardin, who has the conference lead in blocks, is on pace to become the first ever four-time All-GAC First Team honoree in volleyball.
