Reddies Host Ecclesia in Home Opener Tuesday Night

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — After two neutral court wins last weekend, Henderson State takes the floor for its home opener on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against the Ecclesia College Royals in the Duke Wells Center.

Henderson State (2-0) beat the University of Mary 66-63 and Augustana University 83-77 in back-to-back games in Lancaster, Texas, this past weekend. The Augustana victory was an early season statement for the program, as the Vikings took home the Division II National Championship just two seasons ago.

The Reddies have leaned on red-hot outside shooting thus far. Henderson has connected on 17 of its 35 shots from beyond the arc, good for 48.6 percent shooting from the 3-point line. Newcomer Rel Johnson is a perfect 6-for-6 from downtown this season. Chris Parker leads the Reddies with 15.0 points per game on 50 percent shooting from the floor. He put up 27 points in the win over Augustana.

Ecclesia College
Head coach Tanner Huck has the tall task of revitalizing an Ecclesia basketball program that went just 1-19 last season. So far, it has been tough sledding for the Royals, as they carry a 0-5 record into Tuesday night's matchup. Unfortunately for Ecclesia, no game has been particularly close, as the smallest margin of defeat has been 14 points in a loss to Williams Baptist. Ecclesia's most recent game was against John Brown University, where the Royals fell 94-66. This is the third-straight season Ecclesia and Henderson State have met on the hardwood. The Reddies won 108-72 back in 2016 and 112-67 last season.
