Fourth Quarter Proves Pivotal in Reddies' 79-70 Loss to UAM

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State and Arkansas-Monticello were tied 55-55 heading into the fourth quarter on Saturday, but the Reddies were out-scored 24-15 in the final period and fell to the Blossoms 79-70.

HSU shot just 41.4 percent and committed 22 turnovers as the Reddies dropped their first Great American Conference game of the season. Blu Jones led Henderson with 18 points, while Pink Jones added 16 and Brittany Branum finished with 11.

The Reddies (7-2, 3-1) will try to get back on track on Tuesday, Dec. 18, when they travel to take on Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, Oklahoma at 12 p.m.

First Quarter
The Reddies got on the board first with a layup from Hailey Estes but with HSU up 5-3 the Blossoms (3-5, 2-2) went on a 10-0 run to take a 13-5 lead into the first media timeout of the afternoon. Blu Jones had five quick points after the break and Branum hit a 3-pointer as time expired on the first quarter to pull HSU within six, 21-15.

Second Quarter
After a free throw from Branum cut the Reddies' deficit to 21-16, Arkansas-Monticello used a 7-0 run to take their first double-digit lead of the afternoon, 28-16. UAM stretched its lead to 38-23 with 2:17 to play until the half, but a 9-1 Reddies run, highlighted by a Lani Snowden 3-pointer, closed the gap to 39-32 at the break.

Third Quarter
Five points from Blu Jones in the first four minutes cut the UAM lead to 43-39 and after a basket from Arkansas-Monticello's Chari Swift, a 7-0 run from the Reddies gave HSU its first lead since the opening minutes, 46-45. The remainder of the third quarter went back and forth, as the two teams finished the period deadlocked at 55-55 heading into the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter
Pink Jones got the scoring started in the fourth, giving the Reddies a 57-55 lead, but UAM answered quickly, going on a 7-2 run to reclaim the lead, 62-59. Another jumper from Pink Jones pulled the Reddies within one, but UAM again answered with a 7-0 spurt to push its lead to eight points, 69-61. The Reddies closed within five in the final minutes, 73-68, but were unable to put serious pressure on UAM down the stretch and fell 79-70.
