Reddies, Tigers Battle in Crucial GAC Tilt

Henderson State will play host to Ouachita Baptist in a crucial GAC contest on Tuesday with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
 
The game will feature two teams attempting to earn a spot in the GAC Tournament. Henderson enters with a 13-12 record overall and 8-11 in GAC play, while Ouachita is 11-13 and 9-10. The Tigers are in a three-way tie for sixth-place in the standings, while the Reddies are one game back in ninth-place. The top eight teams advance to the GAC Tournament next week in Bartlesville, Okla.
             
Prior to the game, Henderson will honor seniors Kaylon Tappin, Matt Panaggio and Brad Nairn playing their final game at the Duke Wells Center.
 
Tappin scored a career-high 34 points with seven 3-point field goals in Saturday's win over Arkansas Tech. The Little Rock senior ranks third in the GAC in scoring averaging 18.9 points per game.
 
Tappin needs just 28 points to become the 22nd Reddie to score 500 points in a season. In the first game against the Tigers, Tappin scored 25 points and was 13-for-14 from the foul line.
 
Chris Parker scored 14 points and pulled down 9 rebounds against ATU last Saturday.  The true freshman from Plano, Texas has averaged 17.0 points in the last five games and is averaging 13.9 points on the year.   .
 
Josh Jones scored 18 points on January 23 against OBU. The junior from Memphis is scoring 14.0 points per game. Jones leads the team in 3-point shooting at 41 percent making 47-of-114 attempts.
 
DJ Franklin averages 8.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game this season. However, the sophomore from Magnolia scored 14 points and totaled 12 rebounds earlier this year against OBU.
                       
The Tigers rank 11th in the league in scoring averaging 75.0 points per game while giving up 74.5 points.
 
Mahlon Martin leads the team in scoring averaging 11.8 points per game. Martin is OBU's top 3-point shooter hitting 43 percent from beyond the arc, connecting on 53-of-124 attempts. The junior from Little Rock scored 7 points first time out against the Reddies.  

Wesley Franklin averages 11.5 points and 4.3 boards per game. The junior from Frisco, Texas is one of the better shooters in the GAC from the field at 56.4 percent. Franklin totaled 12 points against Henderson last month.
 
Jontavis Willis is another big 3-point scoring threat having made 43-of-113 treys this season. The senior from Strong, Ark. averages 9.4 points per game.
 
Matt Stanley will also be a factor in the game as the freshman from Cabot averages 8.9 points per game including 9 points first time out against HSU.
 
Ouachita leads the all-time series against Henderson having a 106-99 advantage. The Tigers have won four of the last six meetings, however, the Reddies have won the last two games including an 81-79 win on Jan. 23 at Bill Vining Arena.

Tuesday's double-header will be carried on 106.9 FM KYXK Arkadelphia/Gurdon with Cyrus Wittig handling the play-by-play.
 
The Domino's pregame show will air 5:15 p.m. with the women's game set for 5:30 p.m.
