Eschberger, Martin Lead Reddies to Win over Oklahoma Baptist

Zach Eschberger struck out a career-high 10 batters and Jackson Martin provided a two-run double to lift Henderson State to a 4-3 win over Oklahoma Baptist, Sunday at Clyde Berry Field.

The two teams split the double-header as Oklahoma Baptist won game one 4-2.

In the Reddie win, Eschberger got off to a tough start giving up three unearned runs in the first-inning with the Bison collecting three of their five hits in the game in the opening frame.

The southpaw from Bullard, Texas settled down and kept the OBU hitters off-balance on his way to a complete-game win improving to 2-1 on the year.

After Oklahoma Baptist scored its three runs, Henderson answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning as Brandon Pollock led off with a triple and scored on a ground out by Zack Gray.

Henderson, 7-5 overall and 4-1 in the GAC, put together a big inning in the fifth beginning with Nolan Ryan and Dalton Guthrie reaching on back-to-back walks to lead off the frame.

Following a fly out and a ground out which advanced runners to second and third, Jordan Harris hit a shot to third-base that was misplayed allowing a run to score to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Jackson Martin then provided the eventual game-winner with a double to the right-centerfield power alley that scored two runs.

Eschberger struck out the sided in order in the sixth and retired all three batters in the seventh to secure the win for the Reddies,

In the opener, Oklahoma Baptist (9-3, 4-1 GAC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after four innings scoring a run in the first, two in the second and one in the fourth.

The Reddies plated their first run in the sixth-inning as Harris hit the team's first home run of the season to cut the deficit to 4-1.

Henderson looked to put together a big seventh-inning but managed just a single run.

Dylan McCain walked to start things off with Martin reaching on an infield single. After two fly-outs, Ryan singled to score McCain to make the score 4-2 but that was all the Reddies would manage.

Albertus Barber pitched seven innings for the Bison, striking out for batters in picking up the win and improving to 4-0.

Bryant Haralson pitched all nine innings for the Reddies, striking out five batters while surrendering 10 hits in falling to 2-1 on the year.

The two teams will play the finale of the series on Monday with first pitch set for Noon at Clyde Berry Field.
