Alexis Morton put down a sacrifice squeeze bunt in the bottom of the eighth-inning to beat Missouri S&T 1-0, Sunday at the Ronnie Hawkins Memorial Invitational at Dee White Field.
Tied after the regulation seven innings, the international tie-breaker rule was put into effect with each team placing a runner on second-base to begin the inning.
The Miners, 2-3 on the year, could not score in the top half of the inning as Reddie pitcher
Michelle Sorensen struck out Avery English and then got two ground outs to end the inning.
The Reddie eighth-inning began with
Bethany Allen being placed on second-base.
Courtney Warren advanced Allen to third on a sacrifice bunt and Morton then followed with the game-winning squeeze bunt.
Henderson, 2-1 this season, had a chance to win the contest in the seventh, as the Reddies had two runners on with one-out. However, two fly ball outs ended the inning.
Both teams managed just three hits in the game with Warren going 2-for-3 at the plate, while
Caroline Cullins belted a single to lead Henderson.
Sorensen picked up her second win of the weekend as the senior from Sherwood, Ark. went the distance, striking out six batters and walking two.
Henderson will travel to Huntsville, Ala. next weekend to play in the Charger Chill-Out. Â The Reddies open play on Saturday against Mississippi College at noon, followed by a 4 p.m. contest against Delta State.
