Henderson State got a strong pitching performance from
Kris Priddy as the Reddies won their home opener in beating Nebraska-Kearney 3-0, Thursday at Clyde Berry Field.
Priddy pitched six innings, striking out five batters and allowed just three hits in picking up the win.
The Reddies, 2-2 on the year, put together three hits in the second-inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
With two outs in the inning,
Taylor Langston and
Nolan Ryan blasted singles up the middle to set the stage for
Brentten Schwaab who laced a single to left field to score Ryan from second base.
In the Henderson third,
Joe Myers struck out, but was able to reach on a wild pitch.
Zack Gray walked and Myers proceeded to third on another wild pitch. Jordan
Harris found a hole on the left side for a single to score Myers and put the Reddies on top 2-0.
The Reddies loaded the bases in the fifth-inning as Myers walked with Gray and Harris both reaching with base hits. Myers scored when Langston walked to increase the Henderson lead to 3-0.
Jordan Harris pitched the seventh and eighth innings and struck out three batters. Langston finished the game allowing a single, but would strike out three batters in the inning.
Henderson totaled eight hits in the game with Harris and Langston both going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Joseph Shepherd hit his second triple of the year to go along with a stolen base.
Henderson will next face No. 1 Delta State on Friday with the first pitch set for 7 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
