Reddies Roll Past Ouachita Baptist in Tuesday Doubleheader, Claim First Season Sweep of Rival Since 2004

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State's pitching staff was dominant on Tuesday night, and held Ouachita Baptist to just one run on seven hits in the doubleheader, as the Reddies claimed two more wins over the Lady Tigers to earn their first season sweep of the rivalry series since 2004.

The Reddies are on the road this weekend in Alva, Oklahoma, to square off with Northwestern Oklahoma State. Doubleheaders are scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday and 12 p.m. Saturday.

GAME ONE: Henderson State 3, Ouachita Baptist 0
Henderson got three hits from Bethany Allen, while Sydney Bonner allowed just three hits all game to Ouachita Baptist, as the Reddies got by the Lady Tigers 3-0 in game one on Tuesday to clinch the season series.

The Reddies wasted no time getting on the board in game one, as an RBI double from Allen scored Kailey Reese to put Henderson in front 1-0 in the top of the first.

After three scoreless innings, it was Allen again producing a run for HSU in the fourth, when she singled up the middle to plate Madie Green and push the Reddies' lead to 2-0.

Moments later with runners on the corners, as it has done several times this season, Henderson attempted the double steal with Allen and Reese. Allen did her job and more, as she drew the catcher's attention on her attempted steal of second, and forced an errant throw into center field. Reese scored easily on the error to stretch Henderson's advantage to 3-0.

Bonner, who was fantastic all game, found herself in her only trouble of the afternoon in the seventh, when OBU used two hits to put runners on second and third with no outs. Bonner, however, worked her way out of it with help from an unassisted double play from second baseman Lindsey Williams. With two away, the final batter for the Lady Tigers grounded out to give the Reddies the 3-0 win.

In her sixth complete-game win of the year, Bonner was tremendous, and did not surrender a hit in the contest until the fifth inning. Allen was 3 for 4 at the dish and finished with two RBIs, while both Green and Reese also picked up two hits.

Henderson swung the bats well all game against OBU pitcher Marissa Butler, who threw a no-hitter and a perfect game last weekend. The Reddies racked up nine hits against the Lady Tigers' ace and had baserunners in all but the seventh inning.

GAME TWO: Henderson State 8, Ouachita Baptist 1
The Reddies scored four runs in the fifth inning in Tuesday's second game to defeat OBU 8-1 and earn their first series sweep of the Lady Tigers since 2004.

For the second-straight game, the Reddies got off to a fast start, as Alexia Lopez doubled in the first to score both Bethany Allen and Kailey Reese and give HSU a 2-0 lead.

After OBU got a run back in the second, Henderson scratched two more on RBI bunt singles in the third and fourth from both Allen and Madie Green. The good situational batting made it 4-1 in the Reddies favor heading into the final three innings of play.

In the fifth, Ashleigh Erb only made things worse for the Lady Tigers, when she ripped a bases-loaded triple down the right field line to score all three runners and extend the lead out to 7-1. Green tacked on another run for Henderson moments later, when she singled to score Erb and make it 8-1.

OBU, whose bats were kept in check all evening, could not find a late inning rally, as HSU closed it out to claim its first series sweep of its rival in 14 years.

Henderson had 11 hits on the day, while pitchers Kelsey Rhine and Mallory Brewer held OBU to just four. Rhine got her second win of the season, while Brewer pitched five innings of scoreless relief. Green had three hits to lead the Reddies, while Allen, Lopez and Erb each finished with two. Green, Lopez and Erb combined for seven RBIs on the night.
