Reddies Defeat SNU 3-2 to Split Final GAC Series

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Mallory Brewer gave Henderson State a great outing in the circle, to lead the Reddies past Southern Nazarene 3-2 in the second game on Saturday, and earn them a split on Senior Day at Dee White Field.

The Reddies (32-23, 24-20) will now head to Bentonville, Arkansas, next Wednesday, where they will play in the GAC Tournament. Henderson will be the No. 4 seed and will play No. 5 Southern Nazarene in its first round game at 6 p.m. Wednesday night.

GAME TWO: Henderson State 3, Southern Nazarene 2
After falling behind early, Henderson used a big third inning to take the lead, then held off SNU late, to defeat the Crimson Storm 3-2 and split the final regular season series of the year.

With the win, the Reddies clinch the No. 4 seed in the GAC Tournament next week in Bentonville, Arkansas. The win is also the 275th win of head coach Beth Jackson's career at Henderson.

SNU got on the board first with an RBI single in the third, but Henderson answered in the bottom of the inning. Down 1-0, the Reddies got back-to-back singles from Alexis Morton and Courtney Warren to put two on with no outs. The next batter, Lindsey Williams, laid down a bunt that the SNU pitcher misplayed into right field, which allowed Morton to score, Warren to move to third and Williams to advance to second.

With still no outs in the inning, back-to-back ground outs from Kailey Reese and Bethany Allen gave each an RBI, and pushed the Reddies in front 3-1.

The Crimson Storm got one back in the fourth, after being aided by two errors, to make it 3-2, but SNU could muster just two hits in the final three innings against Kaitlyn Felder, who closed it out for Henderson with two innings of relief, to give the Reddies the 3-2 win.

Both Williams and Alexia Lopez finished with two hits for HSU. Brewer was tremendous in the circle, and picked up her sixth win of the year by going five innings, and allowing just one earned run on seven hits.

GAME ONE: Southern Nazarene 1, Henderson State 0
Henderson and Southern Nazarene played six scoreless innings, but SNU scratched a run in the top of the seventh, and although they threatened, the Reddies could not answer in the bottom half, as they fell 1-0 in the first game on Saturday.

It was a pitcher's duel through six innings, as both Sydney Bonner and the Crimson Storm's Katelyn Brown proved to be tough to hit all day.

In the seventh, SNU broke through behind back to back singles, which put runners on the corners with one out. Brooke Stutz came through for the Crimson Storm with a fielder's choice RBI to put them in front, 1-0.

Down to their final three outs in the bottom half, the Reddies had a chance, after Selena Mendoza led off with a double, and a sac bunt advanced pinch runner Brooklynn Jimeson to third with one out. It was not to be, though, as Henderson's final two batters struck out to end it 1-0 in SNU's favor.

The Reddies had six hits in the game, two of which came from Mendoza, who also had the only extra base hit of the game for Henderson with her double in the 7th.
