Reddies Rally to Win Series From No. 25 Southern Arkansas

Henderson State rallied from a four run deficit to beat No. 25 Southern Arkansas 5-4 in game one of a double-header on Sunday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The Reddies claimed the series with the win after taking the first game of the series on Saturday 4-3. SAU managed to win the finale by taking game two of the double-header 7-3.

The Reddies, 23-13 overall and 17-7 in the Great American Conference,  trailed 4-0 after five innings in the first game of the twinbill, but Henderson slowly battled back scoring a run in the sixth-inning as Joe Myers delivered a double to score Caleb Carr who led off the inning with a walk.

In the seventh-inning, Nolan Ryan jump-started the Reddies with a one-out double to right-center field. After Daniel Colasanto grounded out to move Ryan to third, Dylan McCain singled to left field to score Ryan with McCain advancing to second on the throw.

The inning continued as Myers plated McCain on a base-hit to right-centerfield to make the score 4-3.

In the Henderson ninth, the Reddies were facing one of the top relievers in the GAC in Eric White. With two-outs and Jake Dunn on first base, Myers was at the plate and faced a 0-2 count. The Reddie sophomore collected his second double of the game to score Dunn and tie the game at 4-4.

SAU, 24-11 and 17-7 in the GAC, elected to intentionally walk HSU's home run leader Zack Gray to face Brentten Schwaab. Schwaab came to the plate and just missed giving the Reddies the win as he blasted a White pitch deep to left field, but SAU's Nathan Stubber caught the ball up against the wall to send the game into extra-innings.

Taylor Langston entered the game in the 10th-inning to pitch for the Reddies. The Henderson reliever held the Muleriders scoreless in the top half of the inning to set the stage for a walk-off win.

In the bottom half of the inning, SAU sent Nick Starr to the mound hoping to hold the Reddies at bay.

Brandon Pollock began the inning and reached on a walk followed by Bryson Haskins hitting a single to left field to move Pollock to second.

Ryan would move both runners up a base on a sacrifice bunt which put Pollock 90-feet away from scoring the winning run.

With Dalton Guthrie at the plate for Henderson, SAU attempted to load the bases by intentionally walking Guthrie. Starr's second pitch to Guthrie was wild and went to the backstop allowing Pollock to come home with the winning run.

Daniel Sprinkle started the game on the mound for the Reddies and pitched seven innings while striking out a career-best eight batters in a no-decision.

Kris Priddy held SAU in check during the eighth and ninth innings while Langston picked up the win improving to 2-1 on the year.

Myers went 3-for-5 in the game with two doubles and 3 RBI, with Carr and Haskins having two hits each to lead the Henderson offense.

Southern Arkansas collected 10 hits in game three of the series as Kenneth Tabor struck out 11 Reddies in the contest to improve to 8-1.

Henderson scored all of its runs in the sixth-inning with Pollock having a RBI double and Ryan belting a run-scoring triple in the frame.

Henderson State will next be in action on Wednesday as the Reddies play host to Christian Brothers with the first pitch set for 6 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
