Henderson State 3, Colorado State-Pueblo 0
TOPEKA, KS. —
Courtney Bolf had a 13-dig, 12 kill double-double, and
Adrianna Hartmann chipped in nine kills on 15 attacks, to help Henderson State race past Colorado State-Pueblo 3-0 (25-20, 25-10, 25-18) in the second match on Saturday afternoon and earn a split on the day.
The Reddies (2-2) found themselves in a tight first set with the ThunderWolves on Saturday, but with the score knotted at 14-14, Henderson made its move. Behind three kills from both Hartmann and Bolf, as well as three Pueblo errors, the Reddies went on a 10-4 run to widen the gap, before eventually finishing the ThunderWolves off 25-20 to go up 1-0 in the match.
The second set proved to be all Henderson's as well. With things tied at 4-4 early in the frame, the Reddies put together a blistering 21-6 run to finish the set, disposing of Pueblo easily, 25-10, and going ahead 2-0 in the match. HSU took advantage of 10 Pueblo errors and had kills from six different players in the set.
With its back against the wall, Pueblo came out swinging in the third and got out to a quick 3-0 advantage. Henderson responded with a 13-5 run to retake the lead, but the ThunderWolves would not go away, and trimmed the deficit down to just 15-13 with a spurt of their own. Holding a 15-13 lead, the Reddies got two kills from
Zuzana Ondruskova, and two Pueblo errors, to extend the lead out to 19-15. Although the ThunderWolves got within 20-17, they never came any closer, as HSU won five of the final six points to take the third set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
As a team, Henderson had a .309 attacking percentage in the win and made just 11 attack errors to Pueblo's 20. Bolf's double-double was her second in two days, and earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team, while Hartmann's nine kills was an early season high for the junior middle blocker, who carries a .365 attacking percentage through four matches.
Karlie Greene had four solo blocks in the win, while Ondruskova finished with eight kills and five digs, and libero
Gigi Garramone chipped in a team-high 13 digs. Both setters performed well for the Reddies, as
Abby Blackburn collected 16 assists and
Taylor Scalzi picked up 12.
Henderson returns to action on Friday at 10 a.m. when they face Mississippi College in the Duke Wells Center. The Reddies will play two matches on both Friday and Saturday at home as a part of the 2018 Reddie-Tiger Invitational.

Northwest Missouri State 3, Henderson State 0
TOPEKA, KS. — Henderson State could not slow down the offensive attack of Northwest Missouri State on Saturday morning, as the Bearcats finished with 50 kills as a team and racked up a .390 attacking percentage to get past the Reddies 3-0 (8-25, 14-25, 15-25).
The opening set was all Bearcats, as they sprinted out to a 15-4 lead to begin the frame and never looked back, on their way to claiming a 25-8 first set win.
The Reddies came out stronger in the second and hung tough with Northwest through the set's first few minutes. With the Bearcats leading 12-10, though, they got going, and won eight of the next 10 points to open up a 20-12 lead. Henderson had no answer, as Northwest eventually put it away 25-14 to go up 2-0 in the match.
Henderson again competed well in the opening minutes of the third frame, and found itself down just 13-10 through the halfway point of the set. Again, however, it was Northwest who found a spurt to put the set out of reach, as the Bearcats took five-straight to go up 18-10. The Reddies fought, winning four of the next six points to close the gap to 20-14, but they ran out of time, as the Bearcats took five of the final six points to win the set 25-15 and the match 3-0.
Adrianna Hartmann led Henderson with five kills, while
Courtney Bolf had four. The Reddies struggled against the Northwest length at the net, and finished with a .095 attacking percentage and just 21 kills in the loss.
