Taylor Scalzi combined for 35 assists, and eight different Reddies collected a kill, as Henderson State raced by the Southwest Baptist Bearcats 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-19).
Courtney Bolf led all players with nine digs, while
Gigi Garramone finished with 17 digs.
SET ONE
The Reddies' sluggish starts from the night before continued on Saturday, as they found themselves trailing 6-2. After trimming the deficit to 9-6, the Reddies went on their first run of the day with four straight scores to take the lead, 10-9. Henderson's run continued after a Southwest Baptist timeout, as the advantage stretched to 14-10. The HSU lead ballooned to six, 21-15, before two kills Alex by Tyler and
Zuzana Ondruskova gave the Reddies a 25-16 victory.
SET TWO
Henderson wasted little time taking control of the second set, as a 7-1 run gave the Reddies a 10-5 lead out of the gate. The Bearcats closed the gap to two, at 12-10, but the Reddies hit back even harder, as two combined blocks from
Tyasia McGruder and
Karlie Greene highlighted an 11-1 run. Bolf finished the frame with her ninth kill of the match, as the Reddies won the set 25-14, and took a 2-0 match lead.
SET THREE
The Reddies controlled the third set from start to finish, winning the first four points before jumping out to a 9-3 lead. Henderson and Southwest Baptist traded mini-runs, as the Reddies scored the next four points behind two kills from
Laura Targac. The Bearcats answered with a 5-0 run, but the Reddies grabbed the next four, pushing its lead back to nine, 17-8. Southwest Baptist went on the attack once more, as a 5-1 run cut the Henderson lead down to 18-13. However, just as Targac helped the Reddies take control early, she helped put the Bearcats away late, and came up with HSU's final three kills, giving the Reddies a 25-19 set win and a 3-0 match victory.
HENDERSON STATE 3, DALLAS BAPTIST 1
Courtney Bolf and
Zuzana Ondruskova, who were both named to the All-Tournament team, combined for 29 kills and 44 digs as the Reddies finished the weekend undefeated, taking down the Dallas Baptist Lady Patriots 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21).
Taylor Scalzi collected 28 assists, while
Danika Daum and
Gigi Garramone picked up double-doubles in the win.
SET ONE
It was a back and forth contest during the early moments of the first set, as both the Reddies and Patriots worked themselves into the final match of the weekend. With the score 7-6 in the Reddies' favor,
Alex Tyler and
Adrianna Hartmann rose high for a combo-block, spurring the Reddies to a 5-0 run, which doubled up the Lady Patriots 12-6. DBU refused to roll over, and responded with a 6-1 run of their own, which cut the Reddies' lead to one, 13-12. A kill from
Tyasia McGruder helped stemmed the Lady Patriots' momentum however, and though Dallas Baptist continued to nip at Henderson's heels, it was unable to tie the set, as a kill and ace by
Courtney Bolf sealed the frame for the Reddies, 25-21.
SET TWO
The two squads looked even more evenly matched during the second set, as the Reddies and Lady Patriots were locked up at 4-4, 8-8, and 16-16. Tied at 16-16,
Courtney Bolf finished one of the longest rallies of the tournament with a powerful back-line spike, which pushed the Reddies into the lead and spurred a quick 6-2 run. With Henderson up 21-18, DBU pulled back to within one, 22-21, but Henderson took the final three points of the set for the second time in a row to claim a 25-21 win and commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
SET THREE
The Reddies started hot in the third set, getting an ace from
Zuzana Ondruskova and kill from
Tyasia McGruder en route to a 6-3 lead. The advantage disappeared quickly as the Lady Patriots struck back with a 7-2 run to take a 10-8 lead of their own. With the score 19-18 DBU, a controversial call went the way of the Patriots, and the Reddies were unable to recover, eventually dropping the set 25-23.
SET FOUR
A kill and two aces by way of Ondruskova had the Reddies out to a 3-0 lead early in the fourth set. After back-to-back points for DBU,
Karlie Greene stepped up with an ace and solo block to force a Lady Patriots' timeout with Henderson up 7-2. Showing their poise, DBU crept back into the set, and eventually took the lead at 19-18, which forced a Reddies' timeout. Out of the stoppage, the Reddies retook the lead, behind a kill from
Adrianna Hartmann and a block from Ondruskova and Greene. With Henderson up 20-19, DBU tied the set at 20-20, but it would never regain the advantage, as the Reddies finished the set on a 5-1 run to take it 25-21 and the match 3-1.
