ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — After going 4-0 for the second weekend in a row, Henderson State turns its attention to conference play, where it will go for its 10th consecutive victory against Arkansas-Monticello at home on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
The Reddies are currently riding a nine-match winning streak, the program's longest since 2006 when the Reddies won 13 straight matches. This past weekend the Reddies competed in the Union Invitational in Jackson, Tennessee. HSU opened the event with a thrilling 3-2 victory against Belmont Abbey College in which the Reddies trailed two sets to one. The Reddies returned the following evening and easily dispatched of Lane College, 3-0. The following day, Henderson beat Christian Brothers University in straight sets, and bounced back from a rocky opening set to beat tournament hosts Union University 3-1.
The Reddies are led by
Courtney Bolf who has tallied 136 kills,
Taylor Scalzi, who has notched 230 assists, and
Gigi Garramone, who has collected 164 defensive digs.
Tuesday night is "Protect and Serve" night at the Duke Wells Center, and all military, police, firefighters and EMTs will receive free entry to the match.
Scouting Arkansas-Monticello
The first portion of UAM's schedule has not been kind to the Cotton Blossoms, as they have gotten off to a 1-12 start. The Blossoms lone victory was a 3-2 win against Christian Brothers University. It has been more of the same from a program that has struggled mightily since joining the NCAA. UAM's Volleyball program was a combined 1-53 in South Atlantic Conference games before current head coach Kelly Burdeau took control of the program. Although the Blossoms have improved, wins have still been hard to come by, as the Blossoms finished 10-22 last season, including a 2-14 record in GAC play. UAM has found it difficult to replace outside hitter Maggie Pyles, who was named Honorable Mention All-GAC last season; Maggie transferred to Texas Women's University in the offseason. Henderson State won both matches versus UAM in 2017, sweeping the Blossoms 3-0 in Monticello, before beating the Blossoms 3-1 in Arkadelphia.
