ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — After moving to 2-0 in conference play for the first time since the inception of the Great American Conference, Henderson State will take a short hiatus from league play, and host Mid-America Christian University (7-2, 3-2) on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. The Reddies (12-2, 2-0) extended their winning streak to 11 matches after a straight-set victory at Southern Arkansas on Thursday evening. With a win against MACU, Henderson would tie the program's best start through 15 matches since 1993, when the team opened the season 13-2, went undefeated in conference play, and finished 48-4.
Several Reddies are among the league leaders statistically early in the year. Adrianna Hartmann leads the GAC in hitting percentage (.408), Karlie Greene leads the conference in total blocks (54), Courtney Bolf ranks second in the league in kills per set (3.43) and Taylor Scalzi is ninth in assists per set (6.11).
Scouting Mid-America Christian
Mid-America Christian's first year head coach Faith Avalos is quite familiar with this Henderson State squad, as she served as an assistant at Ouachita Baptist from 2014 through 2016. Avalos has helped MACU to a solid start to the 2018 campaign by way of a 7-2 record, including a 4-1 mark away from home. The Evangels were tabbed to finish seventh in the Sooner Athletic Conference after MACU finished last season with a 10-16 overall record and went 6-10 in conference play. Avalos has brought a new look to the Evangels volleyball program, as 10 of the 13 players on the MACU roster are newcomers.Â
