ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- Henderson State will go for back-to-back conference wins at home on Saturday afternoon when Southwestern Oklahoma State visits the Duke Wells Center at 3 p.m.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson (9-5, 4-4) got a career-high 23 points from
Mike Fofana and shot 53.7 percent from the field on Thursday night to pick up a win over Northwestern Oklahoma State 85-73. The Reddies out-scored NWOSU by 13 in the second half after trailing 42-41 at halftime.
- The win over NWOSU improved HSU to 5-1 this season at the Duke Wells center, which includes a record of 2-1 in Great American Conference games. Five of the Reddies' first seven GAC contests came on the road to start the season. Three of Henderson's four conference losses came to teams that are all now 6-1 in league play.
- The Reddies are currently in seventh place in the GAC standings through the first third of the conference season. HSU is a half-game back of sixth place and a half-game ahead of eighth place Harding. Three teams (Southern Arkansas, Arkansas-Monticello, and Oklahoma Baptist) are tied for first place with 6-1 records in conference play.
-
Rel Johnson is 14th in the conference in scoring (13.4 points per game), Fofana is fifth in rebounding (7.5 per game) and
Raekwon Rogers leads the league in total offensive rebounds this season with 42.Â
- Saturday's contest is the 16th meeting all-time between the two schools, who did not face one another on the court until 2011-12. Henderson leads the series 9-6 and has won the last six in a row. Under head coach
Jimmy Elgas the Reddies are 6-0 against SWOSU and have an average margin of victory of 17.6 points.Â
SCOUTING SWOSU
- The Bulldogs come into Saturday's game 3-10 on the season and searching for their first conference win of the year with a 0-7 record in the GAC. SWOSU has a new frontman in Terry Evans, who was the head coach at Central Oklahoma for 13 seasons, where he won 263 games.
- SWOSU is led by junior guard Tre Evans, the son of head coach Terry Evans. Evans leads the GAC in scoring this season (24.3 points per game) and has poured in 20 or more points eight times already this year. Evans gets to the free throw line at a remarkable pace; he is 117-for-147 from the line in just 13 games this season and has shot twice as many free throws as the next closest player in the GAC.
- Southwestern Oklahoma reached the GAC Tournament title game in 2011-12 but has fallen on hard times in the last three seasons. The Bulldogs are 13-56 overall since the start of the 2016-17 year and are just 5-45 in conference play during that span.
