ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- The top teams in the Great American Conference collide on Saturday when Henderson State hosts No. 20 Southwestern Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson earned a hard-fought victory on Thursday night over NWOSU, 59-53. The Reddies held the Lady Rangers to 31.7 percent shooting from the field on the night, which included a mark of 5-for-24 from 3-point range.
- The Reddies and Lady Bulldogs are the top two teams in the Great American Conference according to the current league standings. SWOSU is a game-and-a-half up on HSU in the standings, due to the Bulldogs having played one less conference game. A Reddies win on Saturday would put them just a half-game back of SWOSU.
- HSU has the third-best scoring offense in the GAC (75 points per game) and is second in the league in team field goal percentage (42.9 percent).
- Both
Pink Jones and
Hailey Estes are in the Top-10 in the GAC in scoring. Jones is sixth with 15.9 points per contest and Estes is 10th with 14.2. Jones is also second in the league in assists per game (4.5) while Estes is second in rebounding (8.6 per game).
Karrington Whaley is shooting 66.7 percent from the field this season (64-for-96) which is second-best among all players in the conference.
- Saturday is the 20th meeting all-time between Henderson State and Southwestern Oklahoma. The Lady Bulldogs hold a 13-6 advantage in the series and have won the last four meetings, including both last season. The Reddies' last victory over SWOSU came in February of 2016 when Henderson pulled out an 87-76 win at the Duke Wells Center behind a huge fourth quarter where they outscored the Lady Bulldogs 28-15.
SCOUTING SWOSU
- Southwestern Oklahoma State is riding high entering Saturday's contest. The Lady Bulldogs are ranked No. 20 in the country according to the latest NABC Poll and have won 12-straight games since dropping their season-opener to Emporia State. SWOSU is led by head coach Kelsi Musick who is in her 10th year in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
- The defending GAC regular season champions are led by two-time league Player of the Year Hailey Tucker, who was a D2CCA All-American and Central Region Player of the Year in 2017-18. Tucker leads the GAC in scoring with 19.5 points per game and is the league's all-time leading scorer with over 2000 points in her career.
- As a team, SWOSU has beaten its GAC competition by an average of 25.9 points so far this season. The Lady Bulldogs are sixth in all of NCAA DII in scoring offense (86 points per game) and have a turnover margin of +8.57 in GAC games -- the best mark in the league.
