Reddies Defeat Golden Suns 66-55 for Season Sweep of Arkansas Tech

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Pink Jones scored seven of her 17 points in the final four minutes and Karrington Whaley finished with 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds as the Reddies defeated Arkansas Tech 66-55 to sweep the season series with the Golden Suns for the first time since 2005-2006.

Five Henderson players scored in double-figures, as the Reddies held ATU to just 32.8 percent shooting from the floor.

Brittany Branum, Blu Jones, and Hailey Estes combined to score 31 points, as Estes collected a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Estes' 11 boards moved her into sixth place all-time in rebounding at Henderson State.

Henderson (13-4, 8-3) returns to action next Thursday, Jan. 24, when HSU travels to Ada, Oklahoma, to take on East Central at 5:30 p.m.

1st Quarter
Arkansas Tech opened the scoring with a jumper from Jacie Higgins, but Blu Jones picked up where she left off on Thursday night, knocking in a 3-pointer, which jumpstarted an 8-1 run for HSU to begin the game. Higgins hit once more for ATU, but it was the last field goal for Arkansas Tech in the quarter, as Henderson held the Golden Suns to just 2-for-13 shooting in the period to take a 16-6 lead after one.

2nd Quarter
The Reddies strengthened their grip on the game in the second, and used buckets from Pink Jones, Blu Jones, and Lexis Weber to go in front 23-8. ATU's first 3-pointer of the afternoon moments later cut the Reddies lead to 27-16, but back-to-back baskets from Whaley highlighted a 6-0 HSU run, as Henderson took a 33-16 lead into the break. The Reddies' defense forced 16 Golden Suns turnovers in the first half.

3rd Quarter
Henderson's offense stagnated in the third quarter as HSU made just one shot through the first five minutes of the frame. Arkansas Tech continued to struggle as well, but eventually whittled down the Reddies lead to the single-digits, 40-31. However, Henderson retook the game's momentum heading into the final frame with a 6-2 run to end the period and carried a 46-33 advantage into the fourth.

4th Quarter
After an afternoon of shooting struggles, Estes hit a 3-pointer in the opening moments of the fourth to stretch HSU's lead to 49-33. Both teams found an offensive groove, as Whaley helped the Reddies trade baskets with ATU and maintain Henderson's double-digit lead. With the Reddies leading 55-39, ATU made one final push, scoring eight-straight points to cut HSU's lead down to just 55-47. With Henderson searching for offensive answers, Pink Jones responded and scored on three-straight trips down the court to pushing the Reddies lead back up to 61-49. ATU never threatened Henderson's lead again, as the Reddies held on for a 66-55 win.
