ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State will go for its record fifth-consecutive Great American Conference win on Thursday night when the Reddies face East Central at 7:30 p.m. in Ada, Oklahoma.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson (12-5, 7-4) is riding its first four-game winning streak in the Great American Conference since January of 2012 after defeating both Ouachita Baptist and Arkansas Tech last week. The Reddies have never won five-straight league games as members of the GAC.
- Junior forward
Mike Fofana, who has averaged 18.5 points and nine rebounds per game during the four-game winning streak, was rewarded for his play on Tuesday when he was named GAC Player of the Week by the conference office. Fofana is the first Reddie to earn the honor since
Kaylon Tappin in February of 2016.
-
Rel Johnson had his best game of the season in the 84-80 win over Arkansas Tech and finished with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor. Johnson leads HSU in scoring (12.9 points per game) and is shooting a team-best 44.3 percent from beyond the 3-point line.
-
Anthony Lupardus has played very well for the Reddies during this winning streak and is averaging 12 points per game over the last three contests while shooting 50 percent from the floor (10-for-20).
- Thursday is the 29th meeting all-time between Henderson State and East Central. The Tigers hold a 16-12 advantage in the series and have won the last nine matchups in a row over the Reddies. HSU last beat ECU during the 2013-14 season.
SCOUTING EAST CENTRAL
- East Central enters Thursday night's contest 9-6 on the year and 6-4 in GAC action. The Tigers are led by head coach Ja Havens, who has directed them to a 107-56 record in six seasons, two GAC regular season titles, and a GAC Tournament Championship.
- The Tigers are led offensively by junior guard Camron Talley, who is second in the GAC in scoring with an average of 20.6 points per game this season. Talley, who was an All-GAC First Team selection in 2017-18, has scored 20 or more points eight times already this year.
- As a team, ECU shoots the ball extremely well from the floor and leads the league in field goal percentage in GAC play (47.9 percent). That shooting percentage improves to 50.4 percent for the season when factoring in non-conference games.
- East Central has been one of the top teams in the GAC over the last several years and boasts a conference record of 81-40 since Havens' arrival in 2013-14.
