Reddies Extend Winning-Streak with Sweep of ECU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Abby Blackburn's 22 assists and Sabrina Show's match-high 13 kills led the Reddies to their sixth-straight victory as Henderson State dominated East Central 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-15) on Friday.

Blackburn's very first assist of the night moved her past Gwen Smith into 10th in program history in career assists at Henderson State. Courtney Bolf's 11 kills and 15 digs gave her the only double-double of the night and notched her third-straight double-double in Great American Conference play.

Henderson freshmen McKenzie Tuyo and Kaitlyn Sykes gave the Reddies a boost off the bench, combining for eight kills. The 3-0 win was HSU's first sweep of a GAC opponent this season.

The Reddies will take a brief break from conference play when they travel to Memphis, Tennessee to face Christian Brothers on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m.

SET ONE
After playing to a 4-4 tie early in the opening set, Show's second kill of the night jumpstarted an 8-2 Henderson spurt that put them out front 14-6. Three Tiger kills helped ECU pull within six, 15-9, but a rapid 4-0 run gave HSU its largest lead of the set at 19-9. Back-to-back kills from Adrianna Hartmann and Bolf closed the set out, as the Reddies won easily, 25-14.

SET TWO
Playing with a 1-0 lead, Show's four kills set the tempo of the second set as the Reddies raced out to a 9-3 advantage. However, ECU refused to roll over, and used a series of spurts to tie the score at 12-12. Unfortunately for East Central, back-to-back errors, along with two quick kills from Hartmann, put the Reddies back in front 18-14. ECU made it a three-point game, 20-17, but Henderson ended the set on a 5-0 run to take a commanding 2-0 lead, 25-17.

SET THREE
Neither team could find an early edge in the third set, as the score remained a one-point affair until an ace from Matti Fairchild put HSU in front 8-6. ECU took three of the next four to tie the set at 9-9, but an accurate kill from Alex Tyler helped the Reddies jumpstart an 8-1 run and gave them a 17-10 advantage. The Tigers closed within five, 20-15, but for the second set in a row, HSU took the last five points of the frame to secure a 25-20 victory.
