Volleyball Crosses the Street, Faces OBU Thursday

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — After two tough losses in Oklahoma, the Reddies will look to bounce back on the road Thursday night at 6 p.m. against Ouachita Baptist in the second Battle of the Ravine of the 2019 season.

Henderson State (15-11, 6-5) fell to Northwestern Oklahoma State in four sets and Southwestern Oklahoma in five sets which snapped the Reddies seven-match win streak and gave HSU back-to-back losses for just the second time since 2017.

Despite the setbacks, Henderson State got an outstanding performance from MaKenzie Thoman, who collected 61 digs in two matches, including a career high 32 against Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Reddies also leaned on Courtney Bolf, who notched 39 kills over the weekend and continues to lead the GAC in total kills.

Sabrina Show also tallied double-digit kills for the fourth and fifth-straight match, and now is Top-10 in the conference with 3.18 kills per set. Show and Bolf were often set-up by Abby Blackburn, who totaled 31 assists against Southwestern Oklahoma State, which was a season-high in 2019 conference matches.

Ouachita Baptist | (11-11, 6-5) | 6th in GAC
The Tigers had similar results against Northwestern Oklahoma State and Southwestern Oklahoma State over the weekend as OBU dropped both matches in Oklahoma. OBU alternated wins and losses for the first 12 matches of the season before winning two-straight contests against Arkansas-Monticello and Harding on Sept. 24 and 28. Although Ouachita has not won more than two in a row in 2019, they have also been quick to bounce back, and have not lost three matches in a row, something the Reddies will look to change on Thursday. The Tigers continue to depend on a combination of experience, as seniors Adrianna Nolly, Katie Camp, and Tabatha Huckabee are first, second, and fourth on the team in kills, respectively. However, 811 of OBU's 913 assists have come from freshmen Temi Fayiga and Joni Schneider.

HSU Statistical Leaders:
Senior, Courtney Bolf – 335 Kills
Junior, Abby Blackburn – 587 Assists
Sophomore, MaKenzie Thoman – 492 Digs
Senior, Adrianna Hartmann – 112 Blocks

OBU Statistical Leaders:

Freshman, Temi Fayiga – 479 Assists
Sophomore, Lexie Castillow – 423 Digs
Sophomore, Emily Low – 64 Blocks
