Henderson Scorches Texas College 129-88

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State had seven different players in double figures and got its highest scoring output as a team in nearly 20 years to race past Texas College 129-88 on Monday night at the Duke Wells Center.

The Reddies (3-1) shot a scorching 62% from the field in the game, including a mark of 68% (27-of-40) in the first half. Their 129 points was the most by an HSU team since Henderson scored a still-standing program record of 135 against Arkansas Baptist on Jan. 6, 2000.

Henderson fell behind in the early going, as Texas College hit three 3-pointers in the first four minutes to take a 15-7 lead into the first media timeout. The Reddies quickly righted the ship, however, and used a 38-11 run over the next 10 minutes of play to open up a 45-26 lead. Both teams finished the half with a flurry of points but HSU held a commanding 65-44 advantage at the break. The win for HSU was never in doubt in the second half, as the lead never dropped below a 24-point advantage after the first minute of the period.

Chris Parker led the Reddies in scoring for the fourth-straight contest with 19 points on 7-for-9 shooting. Mike Fofana had 18 and six rebounds, while Chris Owens chipped in a career-best 15 points in 17 minutes off of the bench.

Both Anthony Lupardus and Jeremiah Toney scored 13, Xavier Davenport had 11 with three 3-pointers and Rel Johnson finished with 10 to round out the double figures scorers for HSU. Every Reddie who played in the game scored, including Matt Roberts, Tomislav Miholjcic and Carson Cates, who each scored the first points of their respective careers.

In the victory, the Reddies got an astounding 68 points from their bench and out-scored the Steers 66-18 in the paint.

HSU will open Great American Conference play on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. when it welcomes Southern Arkansas to the Duke Wells Center.
