ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State will play its first contest of the 22-game Great American Conference schedule on Thursday evening against the Southern Arkansas Muleriders at 5:30 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.
REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies ran past Bacone College 103-47 in their most recent matchup as HSU forced Bacone into 36 turnovers. Eight Reddies notched a steal while Hailey Estes set a career-high with seven swipes to go along with 15 points. The senior from Conway, Arkansas now has 16 steals in the first three games of the season.Â
- Junior Lani Snowden shattered her career-high and poured in 29 points on 9-of-13 shooting against Bacone, including a blistering 5-of-8 performance from 3-point range. Snowden also added four steals, three assists and two rebounds without committing a turnover. Fellow junior Karrington Whaley was dominant in the post and finished with 16 points on an efficient 8-for-10 shooting while pulling down eight rebounds.Â
- Senior Pink Jones continued her mastery of the HSU offense against Bacone College, finishing with nine assists to just one turnover. Jones has a 4-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio through three games.Â
- Thursday's game between the Reddies and the Muleriders will be the 106th meeting of the two teams with HSU holding a 56-48-1 advantage in the series. Henderson State has won five of the last six contests including two 21-point wins during the 2018-2019 season.Â
SCOUTING SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
- After a 3-0 start to the season, second year head coach Adam Collins has already equaled SAU's win total from the previous year when the Muleriders finished 3-25.
- Through three games, SAU has been an equal opportunity ball club with 13 players averaging nine minutes per game or more. Ariana Guinn is the only player on the Southern Arkansas squad that is averaging double figures (11.0 points per game). Newcomer Kisi Young has been an impressive post-presence early on, averaging 8.3 points and 8.7 rebounds in just 18 minutes per game.Â
- Similarly to HSU, the Muleriders have leaned on their defense through the first three games and have forced opponents into 102 total turnovers (34.0 per game).Â
- Southern Arkansas is shooting just 32.9% from the field through three games. They have combated cold shooting with a physical presence that has allowed them to outscore opponents at the free throw line. SAU is 52-for-77 from the charity stripe on the season while Mulerider opponents are just 22-of-34.Â
