WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Hailey Estes notched her third double-double in the last four games as the Reddies extended their winning streak to five games with an 84-73 win at Midwestern State.
Henderson State (6-1, 2-0) put four players in double-figures, led by 24 from Estes who added 12 rebounds. Karrington Whaley was one rebound short of her third double-double of the season and finished with 16 points and nine rebounds. Lani Snowden continued her hot shooting, connecting on 3-of-4 attempts from 3-point range on the way to 13 points. Snowden is now 8-for-10 from behind the arc in HSU's last two contests.Â
The Reddies got outstanding contributions from Lexis Weber and Maci Mains off the bench. Weber filled up the stat sheet and finished with seven points, eight rebounds, and three assists in just 19 minutes of action, while Mains added 11 points and a season-high eight assists.Â
1st Quarter
Midwestern State got off to a quick start on Monday night and scored on its first three possessions to take a 6-2 lead. MSU's advantage was short lived however, as Estes connected on three 3-point attempts to highlight a 15-5 run which put the Reddies up 17-11. Henderson State traded baskets with the Mustangs for the rest of the quarter and held a 23-17 advantage after the opening frame.Â
2nd Quarter
HSU and MSU continued to trade jabs at the beginning of the second quarter before a 5-0 spurt from the Reddies gave them their largest lead, 32-23. After a Mustangs' layup, Whaley scored four-straight for Henderson State which gave the Reddies their first double-digit lead, 36-25. The Mustangs got no closer than seven, as two free throws from freshman Ashley Farrar with just one second to go in the first half returned the HSU lead to double-digits, 44-34.Â
3rd Quarter
The Mustangs quickly sliced HSU's lead in half at the start of the third quarter. With the lead just five, 44-39, the Reddies turned to the senior Estes, who responded with her fifth 3-pointer of the night, jump-starting a dominant 13-2 run that gave Henderson its largest lead, 56-41. The Reddies finished the quarter a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range and led 67-52 heading to the fourth.Â
4th Quarter
Although Midwestern State opened the fourth quarter scoring with a 3-pointer, the Reddies responded with another run, as a 3-pointer from Estes and a three-point play from Whaley put HSU in front 73-55. The Mustangs cut Henderson's lead down to 80-70, but the outcome was never in doubt, as the Reddies won their fifth straight, 84-73.Â
