Jones, Snowden Push Reddies Past UAM 76-68

MONTICELLO, Ark. — Pink Jones poured in 23 points and Lani Snowden added a career-high 18 to help Henderson State fight off Arkansas-Monticello 76-68 on Saturday afternoon.

It was a picture-perfect start on the road for the Reddies (16-6, 11-5), as they used four 3-pointers in the opening period to grab a 21-11 lead after one.

The beginning of the second quarter was all Snowden, as she hit three-straight 3-pointers to give Henderson its largest lead, 34-19, with just under five minutes to go until the half. UAM responded, though, and put together a 12-4 run to end the quarter which trimmed the lead to 38-31 at the break.

The Reddies extended their lead back out to as many as 13 points in the third quarter, but again UAM came back. Trailing 50-37, the Blossoms went on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit down to just 52-46 with 1:13 left in the quarter. Two buckets from Pink Jones and Karrington Whaley in the final minute helped HSU close the third out strong to take a 58-48 lead into the fourth.

A 6-0 start to the final quarter put Henderson up comfortably, 64-50, and although UAM cut the lead to eight points on three different occasions, the Blossoms never came any closer, as the Reddies held on for their third-straight win.

Jones was terrific and scored 16 of her game-high 23 in the second half. Snowden notched a new career-high of 18 behind 5-of-10 shooting from the 3-point line. As a team, HSU shot 19-for-21 from the free throw line in a hostile environment and out-rebounded the Blossoms 36-30.

Henderson returns to the court on Thursday, Feb. 14, when the Reddies face Ouachita Baptist in the Battle of the Ravine at 5:30 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.
